“Our experience in swapping our house with Mary and Simon's house in Courtmacsherry was just outstanding. We felt immediately welcomed by the house, very clean and cosy. They left for us a nice bottle of organic wine and many instructions about the house and about where to go to enjoy the area. Courtmacsherry is a nice little village with a very proud community, not touristy, for people looking for a calm and safe stay in Ireland. We left the kids going around with bikes (left by the owners) wherever they wanted because we felt we were in a very safe place. We enjoyed going around for walk in woods and long beaches. Clonakilty is the nearest big village, very pretty as well, where to find good restaurants (there are some very good in Courtmacsherry as well) and big supermarkets (Supervalu the best!) which have always local good products to buy. We also exchanged many messages with the owners during our stay to get more info and they've always been very helpful. As we did a direct swap, we're also very happy about them being very respectful of our house, which they left very clean and tidy. A very special thank to the neighbors Fiona and Michael, very friendly. ”
Mary 's reviewsAs a host (3)
“Courtmacsherry is lovely, rural situated at the end of a smaller peninsula between the small towns of Kinsale (25 minutes) and Clonakilty (15 minutes). Both really charming and very scenic with shops, bars and restaurants. Driving downtown the lively city of Cork is about 1 hour by car. It’s a real small village right at the open water but it does have quit some holiday houses as well as a camping place. The nearest shop is 5 kilometers along the waterfront in Timoleague. Mary’s house is in the newer part of the Village about 1 kilometer of the older part. The house itself is located on a small central green midst of the “new” area with neighbors on each side. It’s cozy and warm with a really personal styling. At the back there is a lovely small garden with flowers as well as some herbs and figs! The 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms do make it convenient for a family. One note: We did find the Kitchen somewhat focused on oven-based cooking and therefor a bit poor utilized for other preparations. The TV and X-box helped our youngest through some bad weather days. Mary appeared a very friendly host who had lots of useful information, guides and tips. Mary’s house is actually a good starting point for exploring the Irish southwest coast. For fishing, for whale watching, for biking (if you do not mind hills!) and wandering along the coast. Nearby are also some nice sandy beaches. Along the coast, most roads are small but also beautiful and very scenic. Travelling does take some time however, a specially since one really has to drive “in & out” the peninsula’s. Meaning that sightseeing further “down the road” often become real day-trips and the more northern peninsula’s might even be simply too far of a day tour. But visiting these “fingers” of the south western coast is a surprise by itself. We experienced them all to be different and unique in scenery and atmosphere. All together we had a wonderful stay and for sure can recommend this place to others. ”
“The house is very nice and welcoming. We stayed at this Courtmacsherry town not touristy, we had the opportunity to know this beautiful area of Ireland. Mary left us everything we needed: guides and directions. I recommend this house.”
