An Carrig, (The Rock), is a 100 year old traditional Irish Cottage. Recently renovated with sensitivity to the old stone building, but with tasteful modernization making use of the spectacular mountain views. The house, owned by an Irish artist, and is filled with contemporary art. I have a 4 year old son.
It is situated at the end of a small country lane where more sheep pass by than cars. It is on the side of a hill facing the spectacular Mount Brandon. It is 5 minutes by car from a number of beautiful beaches/ 8 minutes from Dingle town. 3 minutes from the nearest shop at Carrig. There is an abundance of mountain walks starting from the front door, and has many archeological sites of interest in the area.
Downstairs is an open plan living room with wood burning stove, wide beam oak floors, and modern country style kitchen. This leads off to a dining room / conservatory which is surrounded by large windows which look out onto Mt Brandon, and the beautiful hillside garden with traditional stone walls. There is a shower room downstairs which is decorated with real pebbles.
There are 3 bedrooms upstairs. In the tradition of cottage rooms they are small by very cozy with again more beautiful views. They are carpeted throughout. The centre bedroom has a large window overlooking Mt. Brandon.
The upstairs bathroom has a bath/ toilet/ hand-basin/ electric shower.
The house is centrally heated (with Oil - but also works off the wood burning stove). There is SKY TV/ DVD player/ Internet Access/ Telephone. The garden is on half an acre with a mixture of stone walls/ lawns/ "secret garden" - wooded area.
There are toys for toddler/ cot / & the house is toddler safe. There is garden furniture / small BBQ for summer.
Dingle is one of the most scenic regions in Ireland with endless stunning beaches, mountain walks, lakes, trips to Blasket Islands and Skellig Rock. There are many outdoor activities including hiking, horse riding, surfing, sailing, fishing, kayaking, and of course Fungi, the local friendly Dolphin. There are also a number of guided tours/ walks of the various places of local and historic interest. The aquarium in Dingle town has recently opened it's penguin area which is a great place to bring kids. There is also the seal sanctuary, and a pet farm.
Dingle has a great selection of award winning restuarants specializing in seafood plus the largest number of pubs per small town in Ireland. A lot of the pubs have traditional Irish music, and Dingle itself is known as being a hub for cultural activities throughout the year. The food festival which takes place in October is a great time to visit. In May there is Feile Na Bealthaine - the May festival which holds many events from music to theatre, exhibitions. You will find a list of festivals & cultural events on: www.dingle-peninsula.ie
An hour from Dingle is the Killarney National Park which has stunning lake & mountain walks as well as many of the activities mentioned above.
The nearest airport is Farranfore (Kerry) - which is 45 minutes drive. Cork & Shannon Airports are about 2 and a half hours drive. Dublin Airport is 4 hours drive.
The house is owned by an Irish artist.
I am involved in film-making and photography and I have exhibited extensively internationally.
