“A family of four with two teenage boys we have just had a very successful, non-simultaneous swap with this family in Ranelagh, Dublin. We were welcomed like friends into this family's wonderful home and were delighted with the comfort, beautiful restful garden and convenience of this address. No need for a car with the tramway just a step away & the city centre a 15 min. sight-packed stroll! We loved the village too with its great bookshop, friendly barbers (yes Monsieur tried them out!), wineshops & fresh baked soda bread each morning from Superquinn. The choice of pubs & eateries in the village itself was a treat! The house is in a calm lane which is very private & cosy, there are discreet, close neighbours if needs be which is reassuring. This experience has confirmed our suspicion that swapping is a perfect way to get to know a new destination while having all the comforts of a family home! Now we can't wait to finally meet the family to thank them!”

About our home
We built our family home in 2009 to our own specifications in a contemporary style in a private laneway with an enclosed granite walled back garden that provides a tranquil and green oasis close to the city center. It has three bedrooms plus large study with double blow up bed available upstairs, two king sized very comfortable beds, one queen size. The main bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with large bath and walk-in power shower, flat screen TV, and dressing area, with a balcony overlooking the back garden. A second bathroom upstairs has a similar shower. The entrance has a two storey glass roofed atrium which streams light down into the fully fitted kitchen below, a cook's delight with its four oven Aga cooker and island worktop. The living/dining room leads directly to a sun filled patio garden filled with plants and with a gurgling fountain and pond under leafy silver birch trees. All floors are cork covered with Indian rugs and a large Kasmir wool carpet in the living room, where a glass fronted wood burning fireplace adds to the warmth of the oil fired underfloor central heating system. Solar panels on the roof help the efficiency of the hot water heating. Other facilities are a separate utility room with washer/drier that leads into a two car garage, and high speed broadband Internet with WiFi throughout the house.

aileen's reviews
As a host (2)“This was a great home exchange experience. The house was beautiful and as advertised. They also took good care of our house. We enjoyed being close to Dublin's city center but not actually in it so we could have some respite at the end of a busy day. We did rent a car for exploring the countryside, and were able to park it right outside the house. All told, a very successful holiday!”

Neighbourhood
The house is in the residential section of the urban village of Ranelagh in a private quiet laneway exactly one mile south from the main Dublin city center shopping area of Grafton Street, and from St. Stephens Green, a beautiful city park, a twenty minute walk away. An ultra modern light rail system (tram) to the city is available just three minutes walk from the house. The village of Ranelagh itself is filled with quality grocery shops, restaurants and pubs. Across the road from our laneway is Mountpleasant tennis club and park. We have lived in the village for forty five years and love its friendly ambiance.
We are near to mountains and sea plus there are wonderful new cycle paths three mins from the house, which can be taken along the canal; - if you are fond of biking it is a joy. The largest city park in Europe is called Phoenix Park, one can cycle around all day and not see it all, but you can spot herds of deer loose roaming quiet wooded areas.
As a botanist may I suggest the Botanic Gardens, it has a beautiful Turner glass conservatory plus outdoor and indoor sculptures and an excellent restaurant facing the gardens.
Come and visit Dublin. It is a beautiful and friendly city.
