About our home

Our home is an one hundred and seventy year old regency style house. It is tastefully furnished with a mix of antiques, comfortable modern furniture and art. It had a well equipped kitchen with a Lacaunch range cooker and seating for six around the table. The two reception rooms are havens for relaxing with large georgian windows overlooking gardens. We have Sky TV, Netflix, Apple TV. The bedrooms have king or double size beds with wardrobes. Outside we have a BBQ area and a nice lawn to sit out on. There are two bicycles to use. You can walk for 5 mins to Sandycove beach for a sea swim.

Where is it?

We live in Sandycove. It is a popular seaside resort and is well known for its (formerly) gentleman's bathing place, the Forty Foot, which in the past afforded a quiet swimming haven for males only. This remains a popular bathing place but now, mixed bathing is permissible.

James Joyce lived for a time in a Martello Tower situated beside the Forty Foot bathing place at Sandycove. The opening scene of Joyce's Ulysses is set in this tower, which now hosts a small Joycean museum, open in summer time. Bloomsday is celebrated in Sandycove in Joyce's honour on the 16th of June every year.
There are interesting pubs within a mile of the house. Michelle Obama had lunch with Bono at Finnegans in dalkey this summer. There are at least a dozen excellent restaurants and cafes in the area. It is a favoured spot for walks and cultural events.
