Already in a house swap in Australia. Looking towards 2012 to extend our house swap in Australia. We have a very comfortable home in Ireland in the countryside 6 miles from the county town of Ennis, about 30,000 people. We are located equidistant from the cities of Limerick and Galway and just a 30 minute drive from the seaside resort town of Lahinch, one of the surfing capitals of the world. Clare is very culturally rich with music dancing and art in great abundance. There are many tourist attractions including the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Folk Village and Doonbeg golf coarse. The house itself has two open fires, central heating throughout, a modern kitchen with a sunny aspect from the kitchen looking out onto the garden. We also have an apartment situated in the beautiful tourist attraction of the Algarve, with its own swimming complex and a five minute walk from the beach. Portugal is approximately a two and a half hour flight from Ireland.
My wife Mary and I are currently living in Winmalee, NSW, on a house swap with another retired Irish couple. We are trying ro ride out the GFC by living and working in Australia.I work in the mining industry as a surveyor and my wife is a nurse. Our two daughters who are with us attend St Columbas College, hence the reason why we are anxious to stay in the Blue Mountains. The older girl is in year 11 and the younger girl is in year 9.We also have twin sons who have opted to attend third level education in Ireland. We hold Australian passports and if we were able to dispose of either of our properties in Europe we would be in a position to move back to Australia permenantly.
Wer'e typically situated on the main road from Corofin to Ennis, 2 miles south of Corofin and 6 miles north of Ennis. Our neighbourhood comprises 4 No houses in a ribbon development with self contained sewerage and community water supply. On three sides we have un restricted views of the countryside and farmland. The road is busy in the mornings and evenings, Ennis being about a 15 minute drive away.
In the immediate area we have a rich historic past consisting of Dysert O'Dea monastery and castle. The castle is functional as a tourist centre with it's roof and walls intact hosting a local museum. This area is the site of the Battle of Dysert which took place in the 14th century. In the wider area there are tourist attractions such as Cliffs of Moher, Poul Na Brone Megalithic Tomb, Lemanagh Castle, etc, etc.
The county of Clare and beyond is dotted with beautiful country towns which have their own characteristics and attractions weather it be; music, dancing, food, annual festivals, or other cultural events.
