“We spent two fantastic weeks in this beautiful home this Summer with our 3 children. It is a really nice, bright, and comfortable house. We really felt at home, and we enjoyed the garden and the animals. The family is extremely friendly and made our stay very agreeable. We agreed to keep their lovely dog with us, the children were really happy. We were happy to play the "farmers" during our stay and feed the ponies and the pigs every day. It is a good base for a family to explore this part of Ireland, and we enjoyed the Booley house, for typical Irish music and dances ! Highly recommended... thank you very much for everything!”

About our home
We built our house in 2009/2010 and modeled it on the traditional Irish farmhouse shape, but with a modern architectural finish. It is directly south facing and large windows on the south side allow for wide views of the countryside. Two sets of French doors open onto a large patio for outdoor eating and play! Inside there is a handcrafted finish with lots of oak, ash and beech timber work.
There are four bedrooms upstairs, one double (ensuite), one twin and two singles. Downstairs there is an extra double bedroom (which is where we keep the piano!). There are two living rooms, one tailored for children with toys, play area and TV and the other for rest, reading and relaxation. The kitchen/dining room with a limestone floor and handmade units is the heart of the house.
Our house is situated up a quiet tree-lined cul-de-sac on 4 hectares with many large old trees (one of which supports our treehouse). We enjoy hobby farming and keep hens, pigs, a dog and a pony, as well as growing vegetables in the garden and in a polytunnel (all of which can be looked after by a neighbour during your stay). There is a (homemade!) wood-fired hot tub, a 30 metre pond and an outdoor kitchen/barbeque for those long Summer days. An old church and graveyard are hidden under the trees a small stroll through our orchard. Two kayaks are available for exploring the local rivers and a surf board for trips to the sea.

Carol's reviews
As a host (2)“What a lovely trip we had in Ireland. The house is very big, very comfortable and has a lovely view on the country around. Carol and Cian are really friendly and helped us a lot to make our stay the most enjoyable one. The dog is so friendly that the girls wanted to take her back to France and we always woke up with great pleasure looking at the horses. It is a very nice base to visit Cork, Lismore and the blackwater valley, Cahir, Cashel, the Vee mountains and the lovely coast around Kinsale, Courtmacksherry... It is also easy to book a room for a night to visit the Beara peninsula which is so wonderful and much less touristy than the Dingle Peninsula. The Irish people are really friendly and we loved going to the Booley house. Thank you so much. It was fabulous! Quel chouette voyage!
More about us
-
We are a young family of 6. Cian is a dentist and Carol is a primary school teacher currently on leave. Our 4 children range in ages from 3-12. Our first house exchange (Aug '12, Rochefort) was thoroughly enjoyable and has left us craving more! We are really keen to take on France again during the Summer of 2013.
We love the great outdoors and adventuring in new places.

Neighbourhood
The house is situated 2km from the quaint village of Kilworth and 6km from the town of Fermoy, on the famous Blackwater River. Cork City is a 30 minute drive away. Locally, the Blackwater valley offers much for the outdoor enthusiast with an abundance of rivers, lakes, mountains and forest walks. The area is rich in history as the river has been navigable since the 12th century. There are traditional Irish pubs, both in Kilworth and the other surrounding villages in which Irish music and dance can be enjoyed. Within 30 mins - 1 hour's drive there are many examples of historic castle towns such as Lismore, Cahir and Cashel. There are many beaches (surfable) within driving distance also, at Ardmore and Youghal.
