About our home

Our house is a beautiful period residence built in circa 1845 for the British Military based here in Fermoy. There were originally four of these houses to be built but after the 2nd was completed the military were called away to the Boar War.

It is spread over three floors (2000+sq ft) with an converted attic on the fourth. Two bedrooms beautifully appointed. The entire house maintains some of its original features, such as pitch pine floors and cornicing. The entire house was completely redecorated in 2008, and has been recently painted outside and got a new roof an chimney in 2010.

Both living rooms have marble fireplaces, one with a insert stove and one with a gas fire. The house is gas centrally heated. The kitchen has been entirely replaced with a beautiful Belfast sink and Aga style cooker. Maintaining original features with modern appliances.

At the back of the house is a small courtyard and landscaped garden, with a small lawn to the side with beautiful decking, which gives amazing views over the town of Fermoy and the river Blackwater. There are two infra red heaters and a awning over the decking area to ensure long comfortable evenings sipping wine during the summer months even when the sun goes down.

More about us

  1. We are David and Susie, a young married couple who absolutely fell in love with this house in 2008 and lovingly restored it. We live here with our dog Jem, a boxer, and as yet have no children. Susie's parents live nearby as do her two brothers and their families. Fermoy is an extremely friendly town and we have been very happy here since we moved in.

Where is it?

Our neighbourhood consists of 4 houses, and we are the very last house at the end of a cul de sac. It is so peaceful here you would think we lived in the countryside with amazing old trees and shrubs, and yet we over look the town of Fermoy and the river Blackwater, well known for its fishing. The house looks directly over Fermoy Town Park, where the town swimming pool is located. Fermoy is now linked to cork city by the M8 motorway and you will reach cork city in 20 mins. Fermoy is an ideal base to explore the south of Ireland. 2.5 hours form Dublin, 1.5 hours to Killarney and West Cork & 1hr 15 mins to waterford. There are many fine restaurants in Fermoy and plenty of activities from Golfing, Fishing to Horseriding, mountain biking and hill walking. Also you are approximately 1 hour away from Kinsale and Garretstown beach, renowned for its surfing.
