About our home

Our home is a spacious terraced house from the 1930s, which we lovingly renovated in 2019. It is now fully insulated, underfloor heating, solid fuel stove... all the comfort in any weather.

It is located in a cul-de-sac that is kid-friendly and ... location location location !!!! It has loads of great amenities around, such as the Sliding Rock park, Westside Playing Fields and so much more. It is a 15 minute walk from Galway city centre, the Cathedral, the canal and all the city centre attractions, as well as a 10 minute walk to Galway's quirky West End and its awesome cafés, restaurants and shops. Also a five minute drive / 20 minute walk to Salthill, the promenade, Blackrock diving tower and the beaches!!! And drive 20 minutes and you enter Connemara, where you have no shortage of wild landscapes, mountains and secluded beaches.

We have two children so we have toys, play kitchen, books etc. We would like to accept and welcome similarly minded couples or families who would treat our home with love and respect. It's a family-friendly neighbourhood with lovely neighbours - needless to say no big parties allowed, please no noise after hours.

We have a lovely gentle cat called Nessie. She is sociable, gentle and playful. She only needs feeding, being let out and in a couple of times and some cuddles. If it's ok with you we would ask you to mind her during your stay.

Beds (sleeps 8):
- 1 king size bedroom, 1 double bedroom and 1 twin bedroom (One low bunk bed and single mattress underneath).
- double sofa bed in sitting room

Note for 2022: During term time we are generally at home but have not marked the time as red as we are still open to weekend/long weekend offers. When we have holidays planned we have clearly set it as green, otherwise we are open to offers.

Cleaning: For points swaps there will be a 60 euro charge for cleaning.

Neighbourhood

Quiet and family-friendly, yet a mere 15 minute walk from all that Galway has to offer, Shantalla is a hidden gem in Galway. Our home is located a 5 minute walk from Westside Playing Fields (with rugby pitch, soccer pitch, athletics track, basketball courts, skateboarding area, a small playground and one huge playground with zipline, climbing pyramid etc), 5 min to Sliding Rock Park (a lovely gem of a park in Shantalla, full of history and character and known mostly only to locals), 10 min to Millenium Park and Playground, NUIG and the Cathedral. We can guarantee the kids won't get bored!!! A 15 minute walk will take you to Galway City Centre where you can explore the beautiful street, amazing restaurants and the quirky, local shops. A ten minute cycle will take you to the river walk and Dangan woods. Galway is teeming with art and music and has probably the best buskers in Ireland!!! We are also located a 5 min drive from the Prom, Salthill, Salthill beaches and the iconic Blackrock diving tower.

Great trad sessions in our local pub (Cooke's) as well as in the Crane further down the road. Awesome gigs and shows at the legendary Roisin Dubh. Pints and hotdogs at the Bierhaus. Brunch in Dela, Kai...most of these in the West End, a ten minute walk from us. There is a lot to do around here... whatever you're into, we can help you find out where the stuff is.

Galway is the gateway to Connemara and you don't need to drive far to access some of the most beautiful mountain and coastal landscapes you have ever seen. We can help with guidance on where to go, drives, hikes, and kid-friendly days out.

Buzzy restaurants
So many it's hard to tell. Our favs are Kai, Sangria and Il Vicolo.
Cool bars
Bierhaus, Universal, Massimo's, Tribeton....also our local pub does a little known Irish music session on a wednesday (led by a local family of musicians), we can give you directions, and you can experience the real deal instead of the tourist-filled options in town ;)
Cozy cafés
Urban Grind, Secret Garden, The Kitchen Café
Retail therapy
All of the city centre and wide range of independent shops, as well as the big names.
Bit of culture
Galway City Museum, Galway city centre, Galway Arts Centre, and all the local seasonal festivals, of which there are many.
Walks in the park
Beautiful local walks include the river walk (start at NUIG, 20 walk from us), the local parks already mentioned and the Circle of Life Garden in Salthill.
Spot of exercise
Westside Playing Fields, Salthill, Dangan Woods
Day tripping
Connemara (so much in it, mountains, beaches, towns and villages), Burren Nature Sanctuary, Brigit's Garden, Coole Park, Portumna Forest Park....
