About our home

Our home is located on the Wild Atlantic Way in county Clare, 1 mile from Milltown Malbay and between Spanish Point and Lahinch - two very popular beaches for surfing and other sea activities.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE RUN A BED AND BREAKFAST FROM OUR HOME DURING THE MONTHS OF
MAY, JUNE, JULY, AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER AND THEREFORE ARE NOT FREE TO EXCHANGE DURING THESE MONTHS.
Our sleeping accommodation is on the first floor with great views of the atlantic ocean. The Ocean Suite is 51 square meters, ensuite and has a King Size bed and a Single Bed with a seating area and a multi fuel stove and TV/DVD player. The TV in this room has 7 local channels. The 2nd bedroom is the 'Flower Suite' (37 square meters) also ensuite with a jacuzzi. It has a King Size Bed and a Single Bed and TV/DVD player (local channels for the TV) On the ground floor there is a kitchen and utility room and a Sitting Room with two comfortable sofas and a TV with a range of channels. Adjoining the sitting room is the breakfast room. There is a downstairs bathroom with a shower. As we live beside the coast there are very few trees in our area which allows for plenty of light in the house. We have a nice collection of lavishly illustrated books and paperbacks for our visitors to enjoy. There are two seating areas in the garden each with a picnic table. The top patio has wonderful views of the Ocean and sunsets. The lower patio is beside the shed and provides a nice shelter if it is a windy day. We have a very spacious area to the front of the house for parking.

More about us

  1. We are Gill and Alan from Cork and Dublin originally but with a great love of County Clare and the wonderful nature on our doorstep. We are both in our mid 50's. We don't have children but many nephews, nieces and godchildren. Alan was a mechanical engineer for many years but this year (2018) he is pursuing his passion and training to be a chef at the Ballymaloo School of Cookery. He also loves to bake delicious sourdough bread. Gill worked in publishing up to 2012. We moved to Nottingham in the UK for a few years before returning to live in our home in County Clare in 2015. Since 2015 we have been running a small Bed and Breakfast business from our home. We love to travel and are very much looking forward to visiting other countries with Home for Exchange and having a real home from home experience which we are delighted to offer to other visitors in return who wish to come to our place on the Wild Atlantic Way. This is our first year of being with Home for Exchange. We will take great care of any of the homes we visit and we don't necessarily need a car as we are quite comfortable using public transport if that is available.

Neighbourhood

Milltown Malbay is a very authentic town and the home of traditional irish music. It is a small town with lovely people, a good size supermarket, great bars, a restaurant serving delicious food (open all year round) and other nice shops and places to eat. We have a beautiful circular coastal walk on our doorstep and we are situated within a half an hours drive of the Cliffs of Moher, The Burren (famous for its karst limestone landscape) and the charming village of Doolin where boats can be taken to visit the Aran Islands. The seaside town of Kilkee with wonderful cliff walks is a 30 minute drive south from us. Ennis, market town is a 30 minute drive inland through beautiful countryside. Our home is also ideally placed between Kerry and Galway for visitors wishing to make a longer tour.

We would also like to mention that Shannon Airport is the airport nearest to us and is a 55-60 minute drive from our house.
