“Last summer we did an exchange with Stephen and Margaret and everything was wonderful. Their house is fantastic, very spacious, cosy and with a lot of light. You can feel as if you were in your own home. Spiddal is a nice little village next to Galway and Connemara park and you can do interesting visits around. Irish people are really nice and the music is everywhere, It is a magic country!! We swapped the house and the car and all was in perfect conditions when we returned. It was a great experience. Thank you very much Stephen & Margaret, a big hug from Barcelona!”

About our home
Located at the end of a country lane it is surrounded by a large secluded garden with panoramic views of the countryside and yet our home is only a five minute walk to the beach and Spiddal village (shops, restaurants, pubs).
We spend most of our time in our large kitchen and family room which has a log burning stove and views across Galway bay to the Burren in County Clare. We have a cosy living room also with a wood burning stove and double sofa bed. Both reception rooms have French doors leading onto a patio area (and satellite TV and a piano). Downstairs accommodation includes a study and a WC/utility room with washing machine and tumble drier.
Upstairs we have a galleried landing leading to four bedrooms. The main bedroom has an en-suite shower room and the guest bedroom has an en-suite with a roll-top bath. There is a third double bedroom and a twin bedroom (a cot is available). The main bathroom has a combined shower and bath. Our home has underfloor heating throughout and is warm and cosy.
Our home is very child friendly with a trampoline, and a climbing frame with swings and a slide and a sand pit and a range of ride-on toys for the garden. Safety feature include stairgates and a child friendly fire guard.

Stephen's reviews
As a host (5)“We have just returned from our very first house exchange at Stevie & Margarets beautiful home. The house was delightful as was the village location with close proximity Galway city. The house had a fantastic garden with plenty of outdoor activities for the kids. The house was really beautiful & spacious & had everything we needed. Myself, my husband & three kids had a fantastic time. I would totally recommend this beautiful home in its great location to any fellow house swapper. Sonya”
“We would like to thank Stephen & Margaret for this wonderful exchange! We spent two weeks in their home in the Connemara, a beautiful region, really lovely house and garden. Everything was perfect to come with our boys. With the advice of Stephen we decided to also exchange the cars, and this was perfect: we visited all the most beautiful regions of Ireland from Kilkenny, to Dingle, to Keery and of course Connemara. A wonderful trip we advise you to do. They took care perfectly of our home. This second experience for us was great, we are totally convinced about home exchange!”
“We had already had 6 great exchanges and this was our first time to exchange in Ireland, and we were delighted with our stay in Spiddal. Stephen and Margaret's house is as beautiful as it looks in the photos. It's very bright and spacious and the kids loved the large garden with trampoline and swings. It's located very close to beautiful beaches and is also within walking distance of the shops. Galway city is just a short drive away. We would definitely recommend an exchange with Stephen and Margaret and our own house was spotlessly clean when we arrived home.”
“We had a wonderful exchange with Stephen and Margaret for a month from early July. On arrival we were given the warmest Irish welcome by Margaret’s sister and her husband. They showed us the neighborhood and were very kind and generous. The house is much grander than it appears in the photos and it sits on a huge lot. The surrounding fields make for an idyllic pastoral setting with grazing cows, horses and donkeys. For years I have yearned to return to my birth country and show my children and grandchildren their rich Irish heritage. We were wanting an authentic Irish experience: life without the ever present North American influence that pervades so much of Europe. We found this in the very Irish town of Spiddal where the Irish language is very much alive. Spiddal is located in the Galactica area of Ireland known for its continuance of the Irish tradition. This area is keeping the Irish language alive in fact our hostess Margaret, is a Cambridge PHD Science graduate and is one of a few teachers qualified to teach her subjects in Gaelic. Spiddal is also a fun little town it has three pubs and we spent a few great evenings enjoying “criag agus cheol/ fun and music” in the Tig Giblin an excellent pub and eatery. We so enjoyed their traditional Irish musical sessions. Many of the musicians we spoke to came from far and wide to play with the group. Spiddal is ideally located to explore the many nearby attractions. It is just 18 kms to Galway. Galway was packed, all dressed up and hopping in July with the Galway Arts Festival and the famous Galway races. Just outside Galway Bay lies the iconic Aran Islands, stunning and most visited Islands. Certainly, worth a trip with their vivid Irish culture, mythical history, ancient ruins and monuments. They are ancient, bleak and beautiful, we felt like we had traveled back in time. We also made numerous day trips to many of the wonderful little towns surrounding Spiddal, one prettier than the next. My German husband who spent 30 years in the food business and has eaten in restaurants throughout north America could not believe the excellent quality of the Irish meat all throughout Ireland even in the smallest of restaurant. We ate in many restaurants and the food and service was excellent: we did not have one bad meal We were also so impressed with the warmth of the Irish people. We could not have been happier with our exchange and we returned home to a perfectly kept home. I was not just a home we exchanged but we got to experience a little of Margaret and Stephen’s way of life and it truly enriched our trip. We would certainly recommend this exchange. Thank you, Stephen Margaret, James and Joseph, for taking such care our house. Gabby and Heinz Vancouver, BC”
