The Perfect Lifestyle Getaway!
This charming cottage style bungalow is situated off the main N56 road between Glenties and Dungloe. It sits on c. 0.75 acre site with a large sunny mature garden and panoramic views. Only 200 yards from the picturesque Gweebarra River and 5 mins drive to Dooey beach and within walking distance of local pubs and shops. The property has 3 bedrooms, a feature sunroom, patio area to the side and sheds to the rear.
We are Geraldine and Martin, a married couple. We both work full time and enjoy travelling when able to get away. We have not done a home exchange before but are keen to try what sounds a great way to see another country - and allow someone to see ours. This is our Holiday Home in Donegal, Ireland and as such do not need to swap at the same time which allows for greater flexibility.
This lovely village is situated along the wonderful touring route around the broad sweep of Gweebarra Bay. Lettermacaward or "Leitir" as it is known locally, is the gateway to the Rosses to the south. The "Hills of Donegal" roll down to the sea here bringing with them the Gweebarra River. The bay, rich in both estuary and marine life, is an ideal location for angling, horse riding, sailing, (pier on south side of the bay), scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming and surfing/windsurfing.
Other activities locally include quiet roads, lanes and tracks for walking, hiking and cycling.
Leitir has a population of about a thousand people. Few regions in Ireland can boast of the magnificent coastal and mountain scenery surrounding Leitir. The beautiful Gweebarra Bay and Estuary attract many admirers while Dooey beach (5 mins drive from the cottage) is one of natures unspoilt beauties and a favourite with surfers from around Ireland and beyond.
Portnoo Blue Flag beach is 15 minutes away by car and also has a renowned 18 hole Links Golf Course. Nearby Glenveagh National Park attracts thousands of nature lovers every year. Within minutes walk of the cottage you can retrace the Famine Walk our ancestors would have walked 150 years ago.
Cottage is centrally located to access the towns of Glenties and Dungloe - home of "Mary from Dungloe festival". The larger towns of Ballybofey and Donegal Town (45 minutes drive away) offer a variety of shops and restaurants.
