About our home

Our house is a bright and comfortable home just 10 minutes walk from the city centre, yet enjoying the peace and quiet of the suburbs. The house was fully refurbished in 2011 and is very warm and inviting. Downstairs we have a kitchen/dining room with french windows to the garden and a front room with easy chairs and a wood burning stove. The downstairs area is open plan (with sliding doors between front and back rooms) and is very bright and relaxing. There is also a downstairs wc.

Upstairs we have three rooms - Bedroom 1 with a double bed, Bedroom 2 with a double bed and Ikea single chair bed, and an office with an Ikea chair bed. Although the house can accommodate 5 people, two couples or a couple with 2 children would be more comfortable. The upstairs bathroom has a walk-in shower and a bath and we also have a stair lift and a ramp to a side door downstairs. The garden is large and a little untidy (we moved in less than a year ago) but we have two apple trees and a hammock so it can be quite relaxing.

We have a TV with an Apple TV attached full of movies, and a Wii for when our nephew visits!

More about us

  1. Sheila works as a freelance trainer in the charity sector and Thomas runs his own IT services business. We moved into our new home last year after a long house refurbishment, and we love the bright kitchen and the large garden full of bird song.

Although we have a car which is available with the house, we normally cycle and take public transport everywhere, and we would like to exchange with someone in France, Belgium or The Netherlands that we can access by public transport. As you can see from the photos, we love reading and our house is full of books, including some guide books which will help you explore the many walks and cycle trips around Limerick.

Sheila's parents are in their 80s so we designed our house with a stair lift and accessible bathrooms to make it comfortable for them to stay.

We don't have children, although our nieces and nephews come to stay often and say they love the house!

Where is it?

Limerick is a small city and very easy to access by foot. We are a 10 minute walk from the city centre, the Shannon river, and King John's Castle. There are a number of good restaurants and pubs in the city and the cinema and theatre are also within walking distance. Our nearest pub, the Curragower, does great pub food with a lovely river view terrace and regular traditional music sessions. And Limerick is the home of one of the best Saturday markets in Ireland with lots of really good artisan food stalls. We both really enjoy the pace of life in Limerick and its quiet charm.

Limerick is also well placed for trips to Galway City and the Cliffs of Moher (1hour 20 mins), Killarney and the Ring of Kerry (1hour 40 mins) and the Burren and the beaches of West Clare are only an hour away. The house is 3 mins walk away from the bus stop to Shannon Airport, and 10 mins walk away from a bus to Dublin and Dublin Airport.
