About our home

Our home is newly built (2007) and is bright and spacious. It is situated on a five acre site in a rural area about 30 mins from Belfast. Upstairs is a main bedroom with ensuite bathroom and two further bedrooms (one sleeps 3, the other 1) which share a bathroom. Down stairs is a good size kitchen with double doors which open onto a patio. It also opens onto a livingroom/sunroom from which you can also access the patio and garden. A spiral staircase leading to a mezzanine and high ceiling are features of this large room. Also downstairs is a utility room, walk-in larder, bathroom with shower, hall with piano and another living room which could be used as a fourth bedroom if needed. The house is south facing and has wonderful views from the large glass windows. We installed a wind turbine in a field at the back of the house to generate electricity. We have a small orchard and a small vegetable garden nearby. There is a garage for bicycles etc and a trampoline for children and teenagers!

We live on a quiet lane with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. There are just 10 houses on our lane separated by farmed fields. Our neighbours are very friendly. The area is lovely for walks or cycles and we are centrally located for the main sights in Northern Ireland. We are quite close to Lough Neagh, the largest lake in the country. Belfast is 30 mins away by car. Belfast international Airport is 15 mins away. The North Coast (Giant's Causeway) is 1hour 15mins away as are the Mourne Mountains. Dublin is 2 hours drive from here (or you can visit by train) Our nearest large town is Lisburn which is about 10 mins away and has an interesting museum, leisure centre with a great pool with fun slides and good shopping.

We are a quiet couple with two daughters aged 15 and 17 (also quiet - most of the time!) We are a primary school teacher and a university lecturer in science. We enjoy travelling and meeting new people and can speak some French. We have three cats (Midnight, Diamond and Dynamite) and a couple of chickens and ducks but we can arrange to have them looked after if needed. David enjoys growing vegetables (organic) and cycling in his spare time. I enjoy reading, cooking and when I get time, going for walks. Our children like reading, swimming and outdoor activities.
Northern Ireland has beautiful scenery and is very green, unspoilt and relatively undiscovered. We really enjoy living here - I hope you will enjoy visiting!
