About our home

Our home is on the corner of a quiet mature cul de sac near Lucan, with garden areas in the front, back and side landscaped with trees, shrubs, perennials & patio. The main feature is a delightful gazebo where you can dine, read or relax - a bonus on cooler evenings.

Our bright fitted kitchen is well equipped, also table & chairs. Patio door accesses the utility with freezer, washing machine & drier. Dining room seats 6/8 people. Sitting room has comfy sofa, and armchairs. High speed Wi-Fi throughout house. Separate front room with armchair, artists’ materials. Downstairs also has WC with shower.

Upstairs are 4 bedrooms, one with cot. The master bedroom has a superior king size bed. Guest room is double bedroom & the third has twin beds, all with good storage. Main bathroom has separate shower.

More about us

  1. We are a retired couple, with our family, incl grandchildren living nearby. Joe is a keen gardener, hence our lovely outdoor surroundings. Áine’s hobbies include genealogy, sewing & painting. We really love living in these suburbs with all its amenities. We had a very successful first home exchange in Germany in 2016, and would like to venture further next year. We are interested in a 2 - 3 week exchange in Melbourne during our trip with relatives in New South Wales,

Where is it?

Lucan is a suburban town on the outskirts of Dublin City. It is located on the River Liffey, with several public areas alongside the river, where the local community takes full advantage of walking and fishing. Canoe clubs avail of the many weirs for their training and enjoyment. There is much to see and do: The village has a range of small convenience shops, cafés, restaurants & pubs (one with a thatched roof) and two large supermarkets within a 5 minute drive. Lucan is golfers' heaven with 4 golf courses surrounding us. Two large shopping malls - Liffey Valley (3K) & Blanchardstown 10K.

DUBLIN CITY has many attractions for the visitor. Access to the City Centre is 25 minute drive. Alternatively take public transport (10 minute walk to bus stop). There are Art Galleries & Museums (most are free), Theatres, Historical Sites, Georgian architecture, many and varied guided walks. It is also a city of good pubs, music sessions, restaurants, shops, cafés – Information Folder in our home.
The Phoenix Park is one of the largest enclosed recreational spaces in Europe and is only a 15 minute drive. It is home to Dublin Zoo and also Farmleigh House, Visitors Centre and Farmers’ Market and open air music performances at weekends throughout the Summer and early Autumn.

For travelling to other areas of Ireland, the Train station is only 20 mins away. A car is not essential for Dublin city, but if you are exploring further afield and feel comfortable driving a manual car on the left side of the road, it may be possible to include our car as part of the swap.

Because of Lucan’s close proximity to a network of motorways, it is ideally located as a touring base, with easy access to other main cities e.g. Galway 2½ hours, Belfast 2 hrs, Waterford 2 hrs, Cork 3 hrs, Kilkenny 1 ½ hours.

Beautiful WICKLOW is only 1 hour away for hill walking, the wonderful gardens and waterfalls of Powerscourt, and the Monastic Settlement at Glendalough
The surrounding areas of MEATH and KILDARE have a host of attractions including the historic sites of Newgrange and the Hill of Tara, the Japanese Gardens, and for those with even a passing an interest in horses- The National Stud in Kildare will provide a fascinating visit. All are within an hour’s drive of our home.
