About our home

We live in a magnificent two-storey home on a beautiful offshore island off the west coast of Ireland (15 mins by ferry). The house is 10 mins walk from sandy beaches and local pubs. Our home is large and well-appointed, including 5 bedrooms (2 ensuite), sittingroom with open fire, dining room, tv/dvd/hifi, broadband internet, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with full bath, spacious porch area. The house is set on 2 acres of wonderful gardens full of songbirds, with garden furniture in several areas. The 360˚ sea and mountain views from our home are unsurpassed. We are happy to include car exchange (both on the mainland and on the island). Within easy driving access of Knock, Shannon and Dublin airports. Children and pets welcome!

More about us

  1. We are an Irish-Swedish family of five, two working parents and three students. We have lived on Clare Island for almost 30 years. We are first-time exchangers hoping to spend the 2006 Christmas holiday period in Maine or elsewhere in New England as our eldest son will be on a year exchange to the university of Maine. Proximity to good ski resorts would be preferred!
We are open to all other suggestions for 2006 and 2007: city breaks in Europe, or exchanges with other island/coastal homes particularly welcome.

Where is it?

Clare Island off County Mayo has a resident population of 150 friendly people and has often been described as the "green pearl" of the western isles. 15 mins by ferry from mainland Ireland, it has breathtaking, unspoiled scenery and some of the finest walks and hikes in Ireland. It has a wealth of fascinating historical sites and unique flora and fauna. Its crystal clear Atlantic waters are perfect for fishing, watersports, summer swimming and snorkelling. Island amenities include a local shop, post office, sports pitch, yoga centre, library and pub. The nearest town is Westport (30 mins by car), one of the most cosmopolitan towns in the west of Ireland, with excellent restaurants, bars, shops, galleries, golf and sea angling. Galway, Sligo and Donegal are easily accessible by car.
