Rathcoole is named after the legendary Irish figure Fionn McCumhall, Rathcoole traditionally served as a resting point on the arduous journey from Dublin to Limerick. Today Rathcoole is still valued for its prime location. The LUAS tram system is nearby and Rathcoole is situated less than a 10 minute drive from the M50. With the Dublin Mountains and County Kildare on its doorstep, Rathcoole maintains the distinct character of having one foot in the city, the other in the country.
