About our home

We recently renovated a house from the 1930s. The architectural design added a modern feel with a flat roof and high quality German kitchen. The house contains a beautiful light filled kitchen with windows looking out to the south facing garden. The kitchen is fully equipped with all modern appliances. The kitchen opens up to a patio and garden on the outside and on the inside to a large living room. The living rooms is decorated in a modern take on an old style (chandelier; vintage rug and wall colour) to fit the period house. It has a wood burning stove, projector (for home cinema) and 50 inch tv. The outside has a large patio and children's climbing frame with three swings and a slide. Downstairs also contains a modern style bathroom and shower and downstairs office.

Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms, one on suite wiht a walk in wardrobe xsand a second bathroom/shower room. Two of the bedrooms have king size beds. A third has bunk beds and the fourth is a nursery with a child's cot.

We live in Athenry, a medieval town 20 minutes outside of Galway. The history of the town can be seen through its monuments. The earliest remaining building in the town is the Castle, built probably shortly before 1240. This castle, one of the finest 13th century castles remaining in Ireland, now consists of a three-storied keep surrounded by a strong curtain-wall which had two corner-towers and a corner-buttress near the strongly fortified gate.

Athenry has a direct motorway connection to Galway. It also has a train line passing with routes to limerick, dublin and Galway on a regular basis. Galway City is on the coast and the beautiful Connemara is within Galway country. Connemara makes a really stunning and spectacular trip for anyone visiting Ireland. Galway city itself is a cultural hub and an exciting place throughout the summer months.

Athenry is 2 hours from Dublin, 3 hours from Belfast, 20 mins from Galway City, 1 hour from Connemara.
