A beautiful house located 1 mile from the Irish speaking village of Spiddal in Co. Galway, on the west coast of Ireland. Situated near the beautiful village, with charming pubs with traditional Irish music. There are beaches within walking distance, 5 minutes approximately, and Galway city is only 15 minutes away by car. Outside are lawns, a large deck, BBQs, a riding arena, stables, hen & duck house, a wood-workshop and a number of stores/sheds. There are 3 bedrooms, a large kitchen (my wife is a wonderful cook!), a pantry, 3 bathrooms,an office, showers, a music room and a sitting room.(the music room has quite a number of musical instruments). We have an open solid fuel fireplace and no shortage of logs for a nice evening in. There is a lovely stove in the music room and an electric fire in the master bedroom. We have broadband internet access & computers with 'Skype' (for calling home and telling friends what a great time you're having !). The house has an adjoining accommodation where our parents live. (Unobstrusive, but you will be spoilt with grandma's fresh bread, scones & other delights). The house comfortably sleeps 6 but can easily accommodate a few other guests if required.
The house overlooks the famous Galway Bay, Co. Clare, The Burren, The Cliffs of Moher & the Aran Islands.
Lots of toys, books, Wii, computers and lots of movies stored on the Smarthome & TV systems.
Spiddal is a beautiful little village on the West Coast of Ireland. Gaelic/Irish is mainly spoken. There is a craft centre in the village that displays (& sells) local crafts & arts (www.ceardlann.com). There are a number of pubs and Irish traditional music is almost nightly during the summer. There is a shop at the bottom of our road that sells beautiful Irish clothes and gifts (check out www.standun.com).
The house is perfectly located for exploring Connemara, the Aran islands, Galway, Mayo, Co.Clare and the west of Ireland. Connemara is a wonderful, natural experience, with sea activities, boat trips, mountain walks, horse-riding and island trips available in abundance. Connemara (www.connemaranationalpark.ie).
Traditional boat racing is a regular occurence and there is a festival in Spiddal every summer and in nearby villages almost every weekend. (www.galwaytraditionalboats.com).
Salthill promenade is a lovely walk and is just on the outskirt of Galway city
Galway city is not to be missed. A historic, cultural, vibrant city with shopping, restaurants, aquarium and nightlife within 15 minutes drive (www.galway.com). There is never a dull moment in Galway with Festivals happening constanlty through the Summer. Dublin city is only a 2 1/2 hour drive away or can be very easily visited by bus or train from Galway.
The Aran Islands are definitely worth a visit and the ferry is 15 minutes away (or the airport 10 minutes) (www.aranislands.ie)
County Clare is 1 hour away (www.clare.ie) and is a wonderful day trip with loads to offer.
County Mayo is approx; 1 hour away also and Croagh Patrick, Westport & Clew Bay are definitely not to be missed.
Our home is perfectly located for exploring The Wild Atlantic Way www.wiildatlanticway.com
There is loads to do or just relax overlooking the bay.
