About our home

Christmas 2022 - looking for a swap from 26th December for about a week. Preferably in Europe.

Our home is a bright and spacious period house, located in a lively part of the city and only 15 minutes bus journey to the city centre. With six bedrooms and four bathrooms, there's plenty of room for families. The house has been lovingly restored so that it retains many of the period features that make this late Victorian home unique, while also enjoying a cozy atmosphere due to high levels of insulation and modern heating. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility of the main living room or sit overlooking the garden in the large kitchen/diner/family room at the back. There's also a family room with with Sky TV, a piano and plenty of games and toys to suit a variety of ages. The kitchen has seating for ten and a wall of glass doors that open fully onto the garden and BBQ patio area.

Upstairs, there are six bedrooms over three floors. The master bedroom has a superking bed, and en-suite with bath and separate shower. Our spare bedroom has a king size bed and an en-suite shower room. Our two sons' rooms each have double beds, and there are single bunk beds in our daughter's room. Finally, our youngest daughter's room has a cot/crib. In addition to the two en-suite bathrooms there is a shower room beside the boys' rooms, and a toilet room on the ground floor.

The rear garden provides opportunities for lively BBQs, relaxation, and children's play (including a trampoline, small slide, football nets and plenty of outdoor toys). We also have two adult bikes with childseats available and kids bikes for ages 3-15. Located between the lively villages of Rathgar and Terenure, there are plenty of restaurants and shops within five minutes walk, and Bushy Park and the Dodder River Park are less than ten minutes walk away.

Neighbourhood

Our home is located on a quiet street within five minutes walk of both Terenure and Rathgar villages, two of the oldest neighbourhoods in Dublin which now boast an array of restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets and independent stores. The bus goes from our street to the St. Stephen's Green area of Dublin city centre in 15 minutes, and so visitors can easily enjoy the extraordinarily vibrant social and cultural scenes that define Dublin. Nature lovers can enjoy the Dodder River or Bushy Park within five minutes walk, and both the Dublin and Wicklow mountains are easily accessible by car. The M50 motorway is also within close distance, providing easy access to the airport or visits to the rest of the country. The Dublin coast is truly beautiful and its lovely villages (Howth to the north, Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey to the south) can easily be visited by using the DART (Dublin train) from the city centre. There's no need for a car to enjoy Dublin, but we are open to the idea of visitors using our car too.

Buzzy restaurants
Terenure and Rathgar villages are full of lively restaurants and bars, and Rathmines and Ranelagh - two of the most vibrant neighbourhoods in Dublin - are only 10-20 minute walk. The bus from our street also runs through Rathmines on the way to the city centre.
Retail therapy
Local independent craft and book shops; high end and high street fashion in the city and Dundrum Town Centre (5 minutes by car)
Bit of culture
Dublin city centre boasts exceptional galleries and theatres
Walks in the park
Bushy Park, Dodder River Park
Day tripping
Take a car to the Wicklow mountains and visit the Garden of Ireland, or take the DART along the Dublin coast to visit old fishing villages and ports that are now hopping cultural scenes.
