More about us

  1. We are James (Health Informatics Consultant 48) and Brid (Teacher/Homemaker 52), a married couple with 4 children Deirbhile(17), Sadhbh(15), Eoghan(12) and Fergal(8). We also have a cat who appears from time to time for food, and some hens (no care required).

We love to travel to new places and experience local life. As both girls are studying French at secondary school, we are always interested in an exchange in France. And maybe a language exchange with a French family also? We will treat your home with respect and care, as if it were our own.

Where is it?

Situated in the rural Glen of Aherlow on the side of the Galtee mountains, the house is an ideal base for anyone visiting Ireland as it is in the very centre of Southern Ireland.

It is ideal for mountain climbers, hill walkers, hikers or simply a family out for a stroll or a bicycle ride, as there are many mountain trails locally, from the easy (e.g. to lake Muskry) to the difficult (e.g. to Galtymore or the 18 peaks of the Galtee range).

Being in the very centre of Munster, the house is perfectly located as a touring base for the South of Ireland (car essential, motorway 10 minutes away). The towns of Bansha, Cahir, Tipperary, Cashel, Clonmel and Mitchelstown are all within 10-20 minutes away, with popular attractions such as the Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle, the Swiss Cottage, Mitchelstown Caves, and Ormond Castle in Carrick-on-Suir. Restaurants, shops, museums, swimming pools and pubs (some with music) are in most towns.

As this is Tipperary, where sport is King, you can easily see a hurling, football or rugby game in most towns at weekends, while there are 5 horse-racing tracks and 3 greyhound-racing tracks in the local area. Aslo, fishing in the river Suir in Cahir is a very popular local sport (permit required), and there are 4 golf courses in Cahir, Tipperary, Dundrum and Ballykisteen within 30 minutes of home.

The cities of Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Kilkenny are all only an hour away, while Dublin is 2 hours by motorway. The nearest beach is Clonea, near Dungarvan in Waterford (about an hour away).

Come and enjoy a real taste of hidden Ireland!
