About our home

Welcome to the west of Ireland! Westport is a busy tourist town, on the west coast of Ireland and situated at the foot of Croagh Patrick. It is a great place to holiday in, and is a favourite destination for many Irish tourists. Experience a west of Ireland "Céad Míle Fáilte!" (a Hundred Thousand Welcomes!)

Our home is a modern, spacious, four bedroomed house situated about 1.5km from the busy tourist town of Westport. It is a detached house on its own elevated site (approx 1 acre) overlooking Clew Bay and the valleys on either side. It is a 5 min drive into the vibrant town of Westport. The site itself is peaceful and ideal for children of all ages.

We have spectacular views of Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay from the main living areas of the house. Breath-taking views of the rural countryside are to be had in all rooms. Our kitchen/dining is open plan, and opens out to the sun room. This is a very relaxing room with amazing views. Enjoy watching the sun set over Clew Bay from here. Every sunset is different, and you're guaranteed never to get bored! The sun room opens out to the patio area, which is sheltered on three sides, leaving only the view of the Bay to be enjoyed! This area is perfect for relaxing after a barbeque.

In our sitting-room is a 42" television and an open fireplace. This is a great room to relax in the evening, to watch a movie, or to chill out after a day's sightseeing.

In our play room you will find a Wii with games to suit all ages. A large selection of children's dvds, board games and books will provide plenty of entertainment for our younger visitors.

Our kitchen is large and fully equipped with all mod cons, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker etc. A breakfast bar, with seating, is in the middle of the kitchen. Granite worktops throughout. A utility room off the kitchen holds the washing machine and dryer. The dining area in the kitchen offers views of the valleys below.

Our four bedrooms are all en-suite. The master bedroom has a king size bed, and full bathroom, with bath, off it. A large walk-in wardrobe completes the room. In the large girls' bedroom are two double beds, and another double bed is found in the boy's bedroom. The last bedroom also contains a double bed.

The garage holds all the outdoor toys, including bikes (2 adults and many childrens!!), scooters, go-kart, boogie boards, wetsuits etc. The adult bikes also include attachments for younger children. The gas barbeque is stored here. Feel free to use it, weather permitting! There's also an adult set of golf clubs which you are welcome to use.

We have a spacious, secure garden with swings, trampoline and goal posts. There are large gates on the garden, which will give parents of young children peace of mind whilst children are playing outside. There are swings in the back garden, and many other outdoor toys including climbing frame, trampoline and slide.

We also have a small vegetable garden which you can use when you visit. We have a cleaner who comes regularly, and we can organise her to come while you are here also. We will also consider exchanging cars. We have a Kia Sportage or a VW Passat (5 seater) which can be part of the exchange.

More about us

  1. We are Kieran and Caroline. We are both primary school teachers. We have three children, two girls aged 18 and 14, and a boy aged 16. Next summer, we hope to bring a set of active grandparents with us, bringing our travelling party to seven. We are all interested in travelling and seeing different parts of the world! We are interested in any exchange which will be child-friendly. Due to allergies, we would prefer to exchange with homes with no pets. We are non-smokers.

We are an active family - we enjoy running, swimming, walking, cycling and the outdoor life. We love living by the sea and often walk the local beaches. We are involved in many sports locally including Gaelic football, soccer and basketball.

We also love to read and there are many comfortable reading corners throughout the house. There are books in all rooms! Feel free to lounge and flick through the many books.

Our children are well-behaved and will respect your property. Our twelve exchanges to date have been very successful and have made us all the more eager to experience new cultures and lifestyles. We have had exchanges with families in Spain(twice!!), London, Orlando (twice), Boston, Brooklyn, San Diego, Fort Lauderdale, France (Aix en Provence and Bordeaux), and Montreal, Canada. We have thoroughly enjoyed all our different experiences. We have had some wonderful holidays through home exchanging, and met some wonderful people.

Although we have listed some preferences, we are open to all offers. We love to travel and have thoroughly enjoyed all our house exchange experiences to date. We are hoping to visit the US or Canada next summer, 2019. At times, it is possible for us to accommodate a non-simultaneous exchange. Please contact us if you are interested!

We would expect to arrange an exchange some way in advance in order to get to know our fellow exchangers via email first to see how best we can facilitate their stay in Ireland. We are keen travellers and are looking forward to the next adventure in a different country! Surprise us!
