About our home

We live in the inner suburb of Portobello, the old Jewish district, in a house built in ca. 1860. Born and bred in Dublin, my wife and I moved here in 2008 after completing a comprehensive refurbishment and sending our grown up family into exile. Our 2,000 sq.ft / 185 sq. metre house has two bathrooms each with walk-in shower. The master bathroom (en-suite) has, in addition, a bath and double sink units. The house has wifi, cable tv., dishwasher, clothes washing machine and dryer for our guests.
Portobello is a wonderful place to base your stay in Dublin. It offers a combination of quiet, leafy streets with excellent parking, great local shopping, one of Dublin's best cafe and restaurant scenes and excellent public transport. Just 15 minutes walking distance from Dublin's city centre, you will rarely need a car in your stay. (If your idea of a great holiday is driving around in a foreign city, we may not be what you are looking for!). We are keen cinema goers and walk to our three favourite cinemas. If you want a park, the Iveagh Gardens is only 10 minutes away (on foot), the Grand Canal (one of two canals which enclose the inner city) is no more than 5 minutes from our house. Once there, you can walk to the river Liffey and the Dublin Quays in 30 minutes.

Trinity College, Grafton Street (the heart of Dublin's retail experience), the National Gallery, Temple Bar, St.Stephen's Green - none are more than 20 minutes away on foot, as is one of Dublin's secret pleasures, the Chester Beatty Library, in Dublin Castle. St. Patrick's Cathedral is just around the corner.

Planning day trips out of Dublin ? The motorway is only 15 minutes by car from our front door.
