About our home

Handsome, spacious, well-equipped, well-maintained south-facing house that my late (architect) husband and I built over 40 years ago. Large living room with TV, stereo, CDs, books, grand piano, and fantastic view of Jerusalem and the Judean Hills. Big windows open on to balcony and view, with outdoor furniture for eating out, any time of day or night. Large kitchen-dining room (with adjacent utility room),recently renewed, all appliances, sunny in the morning, large table, everyone gathers here. Main bedroom (double bed) two twin rooms. Bathroom recently renewed (tub/shower/WC) and separate shower room with WC. Style of house - comfortable, pleasing, child-friendly, not elegant or smart. The garden is my joy: fully enclosed, tranquil, swimming pool, 2 lawns (one back, one front), shade, fruit trees. Automatic drip irrigation takes care of the watering! Two students, nice young people, live in adjacent flat below the house - they look after the pool and are there to help with any problems, questions re the house. This house is perfect for a laid-back restful family holiday in tranquil surroundings, or could be used as a base for exploring Jerusalem or any part of Israel, or combining the two. Your choice....

More about us

  1. I am Sara, retired journalist/broadcaster, originally from England. My daughter Raya paints and is a homemaker, her husband Gadi is a musician (viola), their daughters Yael and Rona are 10 and 8 years old respectively. Last year the 5 of us had a v. succesful exchange (our first) with London family, and it worked perfectly for both families. We would like to do even better this year! I'm ready to offer my lovely home and garden to good people, who will take care of it (as I will of theirs) in exchange for a good house with good vibes. For 2012 we would like a house in Crete (or other Greek Island), Venice or Tuscany, or France. Non-simultaneous swap possible.

Where is it?

Motza Ilit is a small village, 8 kms west of Jerusalem, 10' ride to the city centre, 45' to Tel Aviv, 30' to the airport. There is a bus service to Jerusalem but a car is recommended. 5' drive up the hill in neighbouring village is large shopping mall which has everything. 5' minutes down the road is the Arab village of Abu Ghosh, with lots of good restaurants, shops, Crusader church, sometimes concerts, bags of atmosphere and very friendly. The attractions of nearby Jerusalem are endless: the Old City, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Room of the Last Supper and other Christian sites, Western Wall and other Jewish holy places, Dome of the Rock and other Moslem sites, the colourful lively market, city walls, Jerusalem Performing Arts Centre, cultural, entertainment and outdoor summer events, Israel Museum, Museum of the Holocaust, good restaurants, shopping, night-life. From Motza it's easy to reach any place in Israel by car, guided tours leave from Jerusalem.
