About our home

Rural suburban, in a new area hewn out of the wilderness. What you might call a compact detached villa. I appreciate William Morris designs, so that's the decorating theme. We have air conditioning and heating, hundreds and hundreds and books and a great collection of classical CDs.

Please note that, according to the building contractor with whom I've just checked, the approximate square meterage (150) I have put in doesn't include the balcony, terrace, garden or back yard areas. In other words there's a lot more space than indoors to enjoy for most of the year.

More about us

  1. Geoff and I are retired ex-pats from England. My husband was a teacher for many years, then became a carer for the elderly. He is very keen on classical music and steam trains, as you'll notice from the books on the shelves. He volunteers part-time in the stores at a local army base. I'm an ex-legal secretary enjoying a new role as a volunteer librarian. I dabble in poetry now and then, and have had a few printed in a national magazine. We like sightseeing and eating out but have begun to miss England, where one of our sons lives with his family, and would love to spend some time in the UK. We are non-smokers and eat a fish-vegetarian diet. If at all possible we'd prefer guests not to eat meat or chicken in the house.

Where is it?

You can see Mount Hermon, usually snow-capped, from my kitchen window on most clear days. If you want to go skiing, you can get up there in about an hour's drive north. It's usually quiet up here, and cooler than other areas of Israel because of the height - about 1000 ft (3000 mtrs) above sea level. The nearest supermarket is about 6 minutes' drive away, and there are other shops about 10 minutes' away. Down the mountain is the historic old city of Safed (Zefat) with its vibrant artists' quarter and 16th century synagogues. The views everywhere are superb. Our favourite restaurant is in the nearby town of Rosh Pina, 15 minutes along a winding mountain road.
