“Lynn & Greg's home was a highlight of our trip. It has everything a couple needs for a comfortable stay and Lynn's recommendations all around the coast are just fantastic. Thank you Lynn and Greg for sharing your lovely home with us and treating us with such great hospitality. We look forward to coming back to Amalfi sometime soon again in the near future. Best wishes xx Nikki & Mark ”
Lynn & Greg's reviewsAs a host (17)
“We had a terrific time chez Lynn and Greg. We used public transport so after a few days our muscles were tuned in and walking down 800 steps toAmalfi seemed normal. If you do not walk this isn't the place for you but it was all explained prior to booking and the views and scenery are stunning. Pontone provides the basics and has 2 good restaurants. The local fruit and veggies are delicious and the local wine is excellent. If visiting the Amalfi coast you have the choice of elbowing aside the tourists in Positano or to a lesser extent Amalfi, or staying in a hill village such as Pontone and enjoying the local life, mules being used for the lemon harvest and moving local building materials and getting fresh fruit from the travelling truck vendors. It is essential to get a firm understanding of the locals timetables unless you want to use taxis and organised tours. We used the PINTOURS shuttle from Naples airport to Amalfi which is an excellent service and very reasonably priced at 20 euros. Local buses are an experience, great fun but could be stressful if you have tight schedules or bulky luggage. The apartment was comfortable, has spectacular views and we had an apero and breakfast on the terrace most days and did most of the walks recommended by Lynn and Greg who were excellent communicators and gave us good advice. The only negative for me was that I am highly allergic to sandflies which seem to be everywhere in this area and I was not suitably prepared, just a warning to other susceptible people. Thanks Lynn and Greg, we loved our stay in your home. ”
“We were breathing in the view from the moment we arrived & really appreciating hearing our own heart beat. Fabulous location from which to explore Amalfi, Positana & walks such as ‘Path of the Gods’. Take a water taxi and book a boat to a private beach restaurant for a delicious meal & a swim or drive to one of the many family owned restaurants in the area. Everything about our trip was spectacular including the 1200 step walk up/down to Amalfi (their is a local taxi driver who will drive you there). Thank you Lynn & Greg for sharing your beautiful environment, we definitely want to return. ”
“We absolutely loved the location and the house of Greg and Lynn in the little village of Pontone! It has a view from the upper garden over the Tyrrhenian sea, and the house itself is spacious and nicely decorated, with a large kitchen. The communication with Lynn was easy, even while she was in another time zone. We loved the house, the location, the garden view, and the kitchen a lot! Pontone is above Amalfi. There are only some buses a day to reach the little town. You can arrive it also by taxi. There is a 7 minutes walk downhill to the house of Greg and Lynn. Be aware of all the steps and hills in this area. Travel suggestions from this area: Pontone has access to some lovely walks (Mills valley, and water falls), as well as less than an hour walk uphill to Ravello. I made a fantastic walk over the mountains (Pensieri degli Dei) from Bomerano (take the bus towards Agerola, from Amalfi early morning 8 oClock) towards Positano. Great views over the whole peninsula. Atrani near Amalfi is a gem (the artist Escher also worked here). We also made a long weekend trip towards Capri. I combined this trip with a stay in Rome, and took the train from Napels. Thank you so much for your hospitality Lynn! We love to come back! Ard Jan and Carina, the Netherlands ”
“Thank you Lynn & Greg for letting us use your home for a fantastic week on the Amailfi coast. Lynn could not have been more helpful, even trying to help us when we missed the last bus back to Pontone. Beware, do not use the local Amalfi taxi's unless you have deep pockets !!! The location of the property is stunning, overlooking the bay and the town of Amalfi, but be prepared for some strenuous walking. The hike to the waterfall is great, especially when you can take a refreshing dip once you get there. Our favorite place has to be Ravallo. Easy to walk to, stunning views and the local wine was fantastic. if you want to explore the coastline, and enjoy walking, then this is the place. Thank you, once again. Ian & Sue”
“We had a wonderful holiday staying in Lynn and Greg's fabulous home in Pontone on the Amalfi Coast. The location of the house is perfect if you want to escape the hustle & bustle of Amalfi itself, whilst being close to all of the dramatic sights the coast has to offer. The house is a short walk from the centre of the village and is dramatically sited, overlooking one of the most beautiful valleys in the area. In the house you will find everything you need for a self-catering holiday and spending time in the house was a delight on the few days we decided to relax at home. The air conditioning in particular came in very useful during the hot weather we experienced! Lynn and Greg recommended a number of local restaurants and the food was outstanding; some of the best food we had during our stay. A particular high point for us was the short drive up to Ravello, a cultured town with wonderful boutique shopping, excellent restaurants and ancient sites in a place a little quieter than many of the tourist towns on the coast. It is clear that Lynn and Greg take pride in and care for their house and we would not hesitate to stay there again should we return to Amalfi in the future.”
“Big thanks to Lynn and Greg for allowing us to stay in their wonderful little villa. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Amalfi, living "like a local". Whilst the villa was basic, it was very comfortable and met our needs. Being located away from the hustle and bustle of the bigger towns was refreshing to retreat to after hectic days spent sight seeing and walking. Lynn's communication and explanation of all things was excellent. Couple of tips... Luggage: I recommend taking only essential items in backpacks and perhaps leave other behind or at your next hotel if possible as there are LOTS of stairs. Backpacks are easy to carry. Roller bags are not ideal. Food: Lynn's tips were spot on. Transport: The buses and ferries are great. We didn't use taxis that much. Walking/Treks: Must do the Path of the Gods, take the bus from Amalfi to Agerlo and walk to Positano that way. The other way is all uphill :-( Also we walked from Pontone to Valle del Ferriere to see the water falls then back down to Amalfi village. This was a fantastic day and a real highlight. Thanks again, we loved it! Hope this helps. Cheers...Tony and Rachel (Sydney, Australia)”
“The property is difficult to find but certainly worth the effort. You need to be fit and travel light. It is perched over 800 steps above Amalfi and you need to climb 150 steps to reach Pontone village square, a wonderful meeting place for the locals. The village people are friendly and helpful and thanks to our knowledge of the language it was ease to engage with them. We did not meet the owners of the property, but they were very prompt in answering all our questions . A coach from Amalfi or a private taxi will take you though winding roads up to Pontone, but you still need to walk down 150 steps to reach the flat which is beautifully appointed and furnished with style. At the bar on the village square you can also buy your provisions instead of dragging yourself to the local supermarket which is inconvenient to reach on foot along an unpleasant tarmac road. ”
“Lynn and Greg place was nice and cozy. Its hard to get there and if you don't have a car, and if you want to stay out and about at night, you need to spend 20 to 40 euros to go back home, as there is no bus at night, and even if there is bus, you need to take a long hike to get home. Other than location, home was clean and safe a cozy. There was no internet. ”
“Greg and Lynn were the perfect hosts. Their home is the Ideal way to visit the Amalfi Coast - private, quiet, authentic atmosphere right down to the garbage collection - a garbageman and his donkey loaded down with two huge baskets serviced us each morning on his way down 3000 steps to the sea coast! Phenomenal views, great restaurants in the little town with an intimate bar/convenience store. We loved it”
“We had a wonderful time staying at Lynn and Greg’s house in Pontone. They offered us excellent support as we settled into the house and throughout our stay. It is a great location from which we were able to visit all the towns of the Amalfi Coast as well as the islands of Capri and Ischia. The people in the village were friendly and a number had good English so we were able to communicate quite well when we met them. There are lots of outstanding walks in the area with the highlight being The Footpath of the Gods. Local buses and ferries provide good service and a local supermarket had all we needed. Lynn and Greg have a detailed “house manual” with lots of information that helped make our stay easy. A highlight of Lynn and Greg's home is the main terrace. We spent many hours relaxing, reading and looking at the incredible views. It was a wonderful spot to watch the sunset on the mountain each evening over a glass of local wine. The perfect place, out of the hustle and bustle of the tourist towns, to enjoy an Italian lifestyle for a while. Thanks Lynn and Greg.”
“We stayed at Lynn and Greg's super home in January/February 2018. And we had a great time - everything was as described and immaculate :) It was out of season but there were still plenty of things to do/places to eat. The walking in the area is fabulous and, to be honest, when the sun came out it was quite like British summertime! They aren't kidding about the steps though - there are 200 steps down to the property from the road so you really do need to be fit even to get the daily shopping! It's well worth it for the location though. Thanks Lynn and Greg for being such perfect home swappers!!”
“Lynn & Greggs home is located in a wonderful location, overlooking the Almalfi coast in a quite and beautiful old town. We had a amazing week and the apartment had everything we could need. The 2 terraces had stunning views directly down onto Almalfi but also far enough away from the crowds when we wanted to get away. Lynn and Gregg made us feel very welcome and provided us with lots of local information and tips. Highly recommend a stay in Pontone.”
“We spent three and a half months at Lynn and Greg's home in Pontone. It was a complete change of lifestyle for us, perched on the side of a mountain with beautiful scenery all around. The home was very comfortable, complete with private terraces to relax upon, enjoying the spectacular valley and ocean views. The pace and culture of Italian village life was an interesting new experience for us. We thoroughly enjoyed the many walking trails within easy reach of Pontone and the connecting paths between the local communities. Be prepared for a lot of steps!! Pontone's central location is perfect for exploring the surrounding Amalfi Coast, especially using the local buses and ferries. This home exchange was a very successful one for us!!”
“Peter and I loved staying in Lynn and Greg's home. It is modern and beautifully decorated. Lynn and Greg were the perfect hosts providing tips on trains and car service through their friend and driver Salvatore who was an excellent driver. Their home is located in Pontone which is a small village directly above Amalfi. We walked the stairs down the hillside to Amalfi and rode the local bus back up. You will want to get to know the local bus schedule as it does not run to Pontone that often each day. It does run to Scala and Ravello from Amalfi quite often and you can meet it down the hill. It is quite easy once you know the schedule. The people in Amalfi told us that Pontone is the place to stay because you are away from the touristy areas but have easy access to Amalfi and connections to other spots on the coast. We travelled easily by bus and train to Pompeii for the day. It was a terrific experience and a really lovely spot with great hosts! Thank you Lynn and Greg for making our week on the Amalfi Coast quite special.”
“Great apartment with all the amenities and three terraces overlooking the mountains and the coast. The views are unbelievable. You can have day walks to historical towns of Ravello and Scala with many buildings dated back to 12 century (You need to be relatively fit to fully enjoy the place). Three local restaurants are just 5 minutes away and offer very good Italian dishes for reasonable prices. We really enjoyed our stay there.”
“We just got back from our stay at Lynn and Gregs, what a wonderful place! The views were spectacular, the apartment was very comfy and you could never ask for better hosts. We didn't realize the amount of steps there are until we got there (our fault) and Greg went so far as to help carry our bags down! Lynn was always available to answer questions and help me figure things out. The area ia lovely and we had such a unique experience there among the lemon groves, hearing the donkeys bray, and walking the old paths. We enjoyed our supper on one of their terraces overlooking the gorge to the sea, then at night it was magical seeing the lights of Scala twinkle across the gorge. It was close to Amalfi by bus or shuttle, from there we could catch a boat to many different destinations up and down the coast. A visit to neighbouring Ravello is not to be missed. I would just caution that I was not prepared for the cost of taxis - definitely wise to use the services of Salvatore, reccomended by Lynn snd Greg. A stunningly beautiful area and a most memorable stay!”
