About our home

Set in a World Heritage Reserve, our lovely apartment is in a great position and fully appointed with amazing views of the mountains, Amalfi & the sea, reverse cycle air conditioning throughout and central heating. There are two furnished terraces.

Access to the apartment is down Via Grotte, the historic pathway to Amalfi, there are about 180 steps down to the apartment which are not steep, so it is not a difficult walk, but you will need to be reasonably fit and enjoy an active lifestyle to make the most of your time on the Amalfi Coast. Best not to arrive with lots of heavy bags or wearing high heels!

We have only one family below and the property is not overlooked making the terraces quite private, this is very unusual on the Amalfi Coast.

There are three restaurants and bars in the Pontone Piazza just five minutes from our apartment up the historic pathway/steps, Via Grotte. From the Piazza there are numerous stunning walks in the mountains above Pontone and in the Valle Delle Ferriere which has spectacular waterfalls and plunge pools in the Canneto River.

Close by is the Vale dei Mulini which in the past was the home of many paper mills, the ruins of which can be seen from the apartment. The papermakers of Amalfi have continued their production of hand made paper with respect for and maintaining the artisan tradition. The "Museo della Carta" in Amalfi is well worth a visit and offers tours where you can see the paper being produced and the antique tools and machines.

The Amalfi Coast is famous for the accessibility of amazing walks in unspoiled mountain countryside, or for the culturally inclined one can easily walk or take the bus to surrounding historical towns and villages including Ravello and Scala. Ravello is famous for its summer Arts Festival and two amazing villas, Cimbrone and Rufulo. We have a large assortment of maps and information about the area available to guests.

Amalfi is also easily accessible from our apartment by walking down the steps of the historic pathway which takes about fifteen minutes and has fabulous views. Many people choose to walk down the steps to Amalfi from Pontone and take the bus back.

Local buses also run about twice daily from Pontone to Amalfi. However it is just a short walk down the hill to the Pontone intersection where buses run regularly to Amalfi, Ravello & Scala. Public transport is widely available from Amalfi by bus or ferry to Capri, Positano, Sorrento, Salerno, Vesuvious, Pompei, Paestum etc. There is also a local taxi service in Pontone which is available at very reasonable rates and Salvatore can arrange day trips to many of the surrounding historical sites.

Beautiful beaches are easily accessible in Amalfi, Atrani and Positano and the Grotta dello Smeralda (Emerald Grotto) can be reached by boat from Amalfi. The views of the coastline by boat are wonderful if you decide to take a boat to Capri, Positano or Sorrento.

Our apartment is not suitable for children but ideally suited for two adults, even though we have a divan bed in the lounge/dining room, space is limited.

Because the apartment is our home we only accept requests that include a period of 7 nights or more for 250 points a night.

We do appreciate people treating our home as our own and charge €50 for a final clean and laundry.
