About our home

Our house is built on a hill, just out of the medieval small town of Anguillara. It is built
on two floors, and has a summer veranda where we spend most of the time in summer, and which opens to the garden overlooking the lake of Bracciano. A cozy winter veranda on the opposite side of the house, allows us to enjoy the winter sun, out of the wind ´Tramontana´the famous northern wind in this part of the country.
It is a quiet place, ideal for bird watchers and ancient history lovers. The lake is just a shot away, good for swimming in the summer season.
Six kms away (good bus connections) is Anguillara train station, with trains every half-hour to different parts of Rome, 35 kms to Saint Peter´s basilica, a few more to the ancient part of the city.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Lake Bracciano is 10 minutes walk from the house and offers canoeing, kayaking, sailing most of the year. The name of the lake comes from the small town of Bracciano which hosts a magnificent medieval castle overlooking the lake. Bracciano is about 15 kms from Anguillara and again 15 kms from the other charming town of Trevignano on the other side of the lake.
You may also hire bikes and go on hikes on the hills around and towards the other small lake of Martignano.

Buzzy restaurants
Anguillara offers a variety of charming restaurants with excellent local cuisine both at the lake side and in the old part of town mostly within walking distance. Also within walking distance is a main food store and bakeries.
Bit of culture
This is the land of Etruscans and Romans, we may call it an open-air museum, Roman villas, acqueducts still in use to bring water to the eternal city, and all that Rome has to offer in terms of centuries of history and art.
Day tripping
Every half/hour there is a train to Rome starting 6 a.m. till 10 p.m. reaching the Vatican with St. Peter s and various stops to the center of the city.
