“It was a very nice place, in the centre of the little town (but very quiet). Its cool having an "espresso" at the corner on the square. Discovering south east of sicily from there is very cool and easy with a car. It s just a pity that you don't have a terrace to enjoyed the sun. But we enjoyed our stay.”

AVOLA
Avola is a hospitable town of approximately 30,000 inhabitants in the province of Siracusa in Sicily.
The three bees on the town’s coat of arms indicate the industriousness of its citizens.
With its characteristic hexagonal plan, the town of Avola began to take its present form around the end of the 17th century, after the earthquake of 1693, when the surviving inhabitants of Avola Antica, in the Iblee hills a few kilometres away, moved to the coast and reconstructed their town.
The city of Avola occupies a flat site within an extraordinary landscape overlooking the Ionian coast of Sicily in the Eastern Gulf of Noto. Situated south of Syracuse, it includes what was long ago one of the oldest Greek routes in Sicily: the Via Elorina.
The territory of Avola, between the Ionian Sea and the Hyblaean mountains, boasts a rich coastline of beaches of fine golden sand. Cool perfumed breezes from the hills to the north-west of the city reduce the temperature during summer nights.
From the large Piazza Umberto I, in the heart of the famous hexagonal centre of the old town, the Baroque streets of Avola, typical of the nearby city of Noto, radiate outwards
Avola’s location provides access to an exceptional cultural and environmental heritage for visitors to explore.

A BEAUTIFUL LAND
Architecture, Art, Culture, Nature, Local products, Excursions, Activities.
Avola is located in an area rich in natural and architectural beauty, culture and art.
The sea is about 800m from the house, with wonderful beaches within walking and cycling distance. Surrounded by nature reserves, the territory of Avola is an ideal place for an outdoor holiday – including excursions into the countryside, climbing the surrounding hills, hiking in the mountains, diving in the clear waters of the lakes that lie in the caves carved out by rivers, bird watching and luxuriating in the abundant flora and fauna of the Mediterranean.
The town of Avola and surrounding areas provide various sporting facilities: for tennis, golf, soccer, water sports and scuba diving, wind surfing, rafting, diving, snorkeling and fishing, as well as indoor and outdoor (summer) cinemas
In the Porto Vecchio area to the south of the town, you can buy fresh local fish and eat delicious typical Sicilian dishes in seaside restaurants.
For wine lovers, visiting the many local wineries and wine cellars, or taking wine tasting tours, will introduce you to the typical products of Avola and Sicily.
A few kilometers away from Esagonello Monello , there are numerous attractions of great historical, cultural and natural significance:
• The lakes of “Cava Grande del Cassibile” Nature Reserve.
• The Nature Reserve of Vendicari with pristine beaches.

EsagonoMonello's reviews
As a host (11)“The property was really great and after some adventurous communication, it all worked very well for us in Avola. Great city to start your round trip by the way. ”
“We love, love, love Avola! Our family had a wonderful holiday in Sicily, based in this southern town. Prior to visiting, we had great communications with Erica or her parents. They ironed out any worries or concerns we had re:directions to the house and our late arrival (due to a delayed flight). On hand was the lovely Serena to iron out any issues which might have arisen very swiftly. I can honestly say that this was one of the best holidays we have ever had as a family. Avola is such a picturesque town with its beautiful churches and squares. Sitting on the square having an espresso quickly became a morning ritual as did a stroll to buy freshly baked bread for the day. The beach however, was a massive draw, especially when the summer sun shone for days on end! We travelled to Noto and Modica, Syracusa and Ortigia and soaked in the culture and ambience of this stunning island. Our hosts were lovely and it was wonderful to stay in their home, as we had hosted them previously. This was a truly memorable holiday and we hope to return sometime to Avola and see the many, many sights we could not fit in!”
“This was a rental at a very reasonable rate. We did have a problem with payment of the rent. Love Home Swap requires the rent to be paid through the website, not directly to the owner. If you pay the owner, LHS will still take your money. This was a misunderstanding on our part so no blame to anyone, just a warning. We stayed with our daughter and son-in law for a week. We were the only tenants so we had plenty of space and had the two ensuite rooms. The property is close to the centre of Avola and shares a private courtyard so parking is easy although the access is quite narrow. There are a few cafes and restaurants (mainly pizza) nearby as well as convenience shops, markets and a bank. The town is not very touristy so it is great to live like a local, but you should practice your Italian phrases. The beach is very nice but too far to walk. Erica provided excellent information to help plan our trip. We did a tour of Mt Etna, a hike into Cava Grande, day trips to Noto, Siracusa and saw the flamingos in the national park. We explored many secluded beaches and bays. The car hire recommended by Erica was very good. Overall, we would highly recommend Esagonomonello for a real Sicilian experience.”
“This property is in the town of Avola which is situated between the World Heritage Syracuse and the beautiful towns of Noto, Modica, Ragusa & the delightful fishing village of Marzamemi (a great place for a seafood lunch looking over the sea). The famous Cava Grande is about 15 minutes drive and the famous Taormina is an easy day's excursion. We really enjoyed our stay in the house which was very typically Italian. Our welcome was outstanding as we were lucky enough to have the owners Franco and Lucrezia in house at the time. The rooms are big and spotless, old world, one couldn't say luxurious but spotlessly clean. The position was great, easy parking in the small piazza in front, with 3 minutes walk to the nearest bar and lots of restaurants, both typical and modern. The main piazza is very beautiful with many outside umbrellas and a great place to watch the world go by. The easy walk to the beach is about 20 minutes and quite easy. Everything is there with 2 banks (that I saw, there may be more) restaurants, bars, beautiful churches, great shopping and of course the wonderful sweet world of the pasticceria. If you do visit, don't miss out on having a brioche with a granita - a famous Sicilian breakfast. If you want to get away from the tourist crowds and see the real Sicily, I would recommend Esagonamonello. Thank you Erica, Lucrezia & Franco for a wonderful week. Marilyn, Barry & Kay ”
“Efficient communication and excellent location to explore East of Sicily and its beautiful towns and beaches”
“A good place to stay, very close to the center of the town.”
“We had a lovely holiday staying in Avola! This is a gem situated on the southeast coast of Sicily. In planning our trip, communications could not have been better - Erica went out of her way to ensure that everything went smoothly. The house is a cool, multi bedroomed oasis from the heat, with everything we needed. Living here and shopping locally gave us a glimpse into Sicilian life. We had a wonderfully relaxing holiday, this is a great base for exploring this part of Sicily and we had fascinating trips to Syracusa and Noto. The beaches were beautiful and spotlessly clean and of course the sunshine was a bonus! Thank you Erica for all your communication and to Serena too, who was always on hand to solve any problems! We had a great time!”
“Lovely old property in the heart of Avola, ideally placed for touring the south-east of Sicily. Erica and Serena could not have been more helpful - really lovely.”
“Fabulous stay at both Avola and Rome! Both great locations to explore the surrounding region from. Great hospitality, great food and generosity, and excellent places to visit. We loved it.”
“Esagonomonello is a small villa and I had a spacious room with en-suite bathroom and use of the sunny reception room. The place is just what you might hope for with a nice mix of traditional furnishing and modern appliances. Avola is really charming place quietly situated but within two minutes walking distance to shops and cafes and the UNESCO World Heritage Site which comprises a large area of Avola. ”
