“We had the most wonderful stay at Christopher & Adrian's Italian retreat. The setting is absolutely beautiful, the house is very comfortable & the grounds and gardens are completely stunning. The pool perched on the edge of the valley was a real highlight for the whole family. Fantastic location for a memorable trip to the Cinque Terre, seaside outings and wonderful Lucca We felt extremely privileged to be able to stay here and call it ‘home’ for 9 days, but the icing on the cake was being hosted by 2 such generous, warm wonderful people. We couldn’t have wished for a better swap - definitely our best yet and we hope we can do it again in the not too distant future!”

About our home
La Roccia, dating from 1743, is a beautiful, serene Tuscan farmhouse, tastefully decorated with a mix of modern and antique furniture. It is across the courtyard from our full-time home and is equally as loved and cherished, so doesn't feel like a characterless holiday home.
Downstairs there is a large eat-in kitchen with marble worktops, wooden cabinetry and a fully beamed ceiling. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a working fireplace. On the ground floor there is also a bedroom with twin beds and a separate bathroom with a large shower.
Up the spiral staircase, you'll find a double living and dining room with attractive antique furniture and an original beamed ceiling. There is also lovely double bedroom with a view over the courtyard. On this floor there is a second bathroom with a new, very large, walk in shower.
You'll have exclusive use of the lovely courtyard, with views up through the olive terraces. From the courtyard, you'll maybe see our family of resident deer. There is also a rear, private terrace.
Our home is set in nine acres of olive terraces and woodland, which you're free to explore. There is a small swimming pool, remodelled in Spring 2022, open May to September. Also a laundry room.
Our home is 18 km from the magnificent Medieval and Renaissance city of Lucca; 70 minutes from Florence / Firenze; 45 minutes from Pisa, the Versilian Riviera and the smart beach resort of Forte dei Marmi; and within two hours of Siena and southern Tuscany. A car is essential.

Christopher's reviewsAs a host (4) As a guest (2)
“We had an amazing time staying with Christopher & Adrian in their beautiful property in Tuscany. The location is stunning, so tranquil and scenic and they were great hosts. They provided us with great tips in where to visit and where to dine. They were always available, but never intrusive. I would highly recommend this location as a place from which to discover Lucca, the Tuscan coast and the rest of Tuscany. The lovely pool was a welcome relief after a hot day's sight seeing and the comfortable beds were even more welcome! Thank you for a great holiday!”
“This was a lovely swap. A tranquil location with wonderful local restaurants. Chris and Adrian were fabulous hosts who helped us discover a few local gems that otherwise we would have missed. We would definitely return and hope to next year. Thanks again both. Tina ”

Where is it?
In the Province of Lucca, La Roccia is close to Celle dei Puccini, one time home of the Puccini family, and the beautiful hill village of Pescaglia, perched at the top of a steep hillside.
Bordered by the forested Appenines to the east and the Apuan Alps to the west, the Garfagnana area is one of alpine meadows, lush hills, rivers and gorges, making it ideal for walking and hiking.
The Medieval and Renaissance, walled city of Lucca is only 18 kilometres away, while Pisa (45 minutes) and Florence (75 minutes) are close enough for day trips.
The smart beach resorts of Forte dei Marmi, Lido di Camaiore and Viareggio are only a short (45 minutes), but stunning drive across the Apuan Alps.
The historic, hilltop cathedral town of Barga (20 minutes) and Puccini’s favourite Torre del Lago (45 minutes) have wonderful music and opera festivals throughout the spring and summer.
