About our home

Beautiful apartment located on the second floor of a "old world" building which has been very recently completely renovated on the outside and brought back to its original splendor.
The apartment has 3 bedrooms: one with a large double bed, one with a twin size bed and one with a sofa bed.
There is one bathroom with shower and bidet and a kitchen with refrigerator, gas stove, oven, television, a table for family meals and plenty of cooking utensils. The apartment also has a living room with a balcony, an entrance hall and a formal dining room. The elevator takes you to the front door of the apartment.

More about us

  1. We are Silvia and Bob. Silvia is Italian, Bob is American We have two grown-up children and two grand children. We have recently retired. We live in San Diego, California and spend the summers in Genova where we have the apartment that we like to exchange. Bob is a retired University Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry. He still does some research at the University. Silvia is still teaching Italian part-time. We have been traveling all over the world. We have lived in Melbourne and Sydney during sabbatical years and we would love to go back and spend some time there again.
We have not done a home exchange before, but are keen to try what sounds a great way to see another country as a resident - and allow someone to see yours. We would expect to arrive in Melbourne in October 2017 and stay for about two months, than hopefully we would like to find another exchange in Sydney for the month of December. Our house in Genova will be available for those months or for the spring of 2018.
As our dates are a little restricted because Bob would like to work at the University of Melbourne during the months of October and November, and in Sydney in December, while our place in Genova can accomodate our exchanging guests in the fall or 2017 or in the spring or fall of 2018. Two travelers.
We are very clean and will be very respectful of your place and we will treat it as it were our own home!

Where is it?

The apartment building in a very central and desirable neighbor of Genoa called San Nicola. A two minute walk takes you to a street from which you can admire a panorama of the old city and port of Genoa, bus stops for buses that can take you to the center of town (or you can walk there down a steep passageway in about 30 minutes). A five minutes walk from the apartment takes you to a supermarket and all the specialty stores that you can think of: a butcher shop, stores selling fresh fish, cheese, fruits and vegetables, a bakery with very good bread rolls plus genoese focaccia. There is a church, a bank with ATM machine, a newspaper stand, a pharmacy, three coffee shops, two restaurants, a pizzeria and two stores where you can buy delicious take home food. and, just a quick half-block walk from the apartment, a very Italian Gelateria with some of the best ice cream in Genoa!
The railway station is also very close and you do not need a car to explore all the Ligurian "Riviera".
Santa Margherita, Portofino, Rapallo. and The Cinque Terre are only a few places that we can mention and they are no more than 90 minutes from Genova. By bus you can reach many beautiful places on the sea. Daily, weekly or monthly bus passes allow you to also use the Metro and the train as far as Nervi and Voltri
