“My wife and I loved this very special place. A real getaway from the hustle & bustle. The house is well set up and extremely comfortable. ”
Guy's reviewsAs a host (12)
“This house is amazing! Set on the edge of a hill, overlooking little villages of Tuscany, it has charm and character. Guy was wonderful to communicate with and the house had everything you need. You have to walk up worn cobblestone paths to get there, as you take a step back in time. (though the house is very modern!) we took a million photos! Love, love, love! ”
“Guy was amazing to deal with. His home is beautiful. It has stunning views and catered for us very well. The village is extremely quiet so you will need to drive to get back and forth. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday with the option to visit other places, I would highly recommend this property. ”
“Guy's home in Pieve di Controne outside of Bagni Di Luca is absolutely stunning. It's historic yet modern charm are out of a story book. We stayed with our 7 yr old and 1.5 yr old children and they loved the charm and hiking paths nearby. The home is very comfortable and well decorated and Guy was great to communicate with. My only comment is that the property is a 10-15 minute drive to a town on a very windy road which is charming but if windy roads bother you this may be something to consider. As well, it is a short walk to the home from the car park therefore you need to have mobility. Our kids loved the fun of wondering around the Pieve. Thanks Guy. Please come and stay in the RockyMountains soon! ”
“What a great spot for a holiday! We wanted somewhere away from the crowds and bright lights that gave us a taste of the “real” Tuscany and Guy’s hideaway certainly supplied it. It was intriguingly quirky, beautifully restored and extremely comfortable. We were there in early spring and thought the evenings were cool, the easy to operate fire made us feel nice and “toasty”. The morning views over the valley below now act as my computer screensaver to remind me of a holiday that I and my travel companions will never forget.”
“We had a wonderful two weeks in Guy & Lyn's converted barn. It is beautifully decorated and furnished as well as very comfortable and welcoming. The location is fabulous, very high up with amazing views of the mountains and valleys. At night you can see the lights twinkling in the villages below. The walks are lovely and it is easy to get to many places of interest including Lucca, Bagni di Lucca and Barga. Trains from Bagni di Lucca are a great option for exploring further afield. The famous Devils Bridge is well worth a visit and don't miss the great Pizzeria at the foot of the bridge, Thanks Guy & Lyn for a great swap, for being so easy to communicate with and for maintaining your sense of humour in the face of inclement weather! You were perfect guests and treated our home as your own. Best wishes, Lynn & Greg”
“Guy's home is a gem hidden from the world in the stunning Tuscan hills. The home is full of character with exposed timber beams in the ceiling and thick stone walls. It has been tastefully decorated and renovated and now provides all the comforts of modern living. Looking out the living room window you can see small villages dotted on the distant hills and can hear the perfect sounds of peace and tranquility ! We enjoyed exploring the local villages and hiking up some of the larger hills in the area. We enjoyed the local restaurant, where there was no menu, and as soon as we sat down the three course meal had begun to be served up. (Don't forget to bring cash....no visa cards at this restaurant). Day trips to Pisa and Lucca are easily enjoyed from Guy's home. I can thoroughly recommend a swap with Guy and his beautiful converted barn. Justin, Andrea and the boys. Cherryville, Australia. ”
“We've had a really relaxing week in Guy's place. Beautiful views of the mountains, walks through the old donkey trails to the surrounding villages and day trips to Lucca and Bagni di Lucca's restaurants. The house is comfortable and well equipped and the imac with VPN meant there was lots we could watch in the evenings. Great communication throughout with Guy and really thorough directions to find the house. Thanks for having us! ”
“Such an amazing week in Guys' hide away in Tuscany. The area of Bagni di Lucca is picture post card beautiful. You'll need a car to explore, but there's so much to see when you do - Lucca, Pisa, Florence, National parks, all great places to see and experience. The place itself is tucked up in the mountain with perfect views over the valley. It has all the amenities you could need and furnished nicely with thoughtful touches throughout. Overall i'd say it's a perfect place to explore Tuscany from!”
“We spent wonderful five days in Guy’s apartment in the beautiful Tuscany mountain village of Pieve di Controne. It was so much more than we expected. I told my friend when I called her that I’m in heaven! When I looked from the window to the gorgeous Tuscanian mountains, I was speechless! If you love beautiful, pure nature, this is the place for you! The house is very stylish. It’s a part of an old village house and there is still the atmosphere of an old Tuscanian house. The house, the surrounding garden and the village are very unique. The apartment is very comfortable, clean and very well equipped. I have nothing to complain but very much to thank for! We love to cook good food and that was really easy in this apartment. There’s a table in the garden, where we had breakfast and dinner and sat in the evening listening to the sounds of nature. There are nice walkways from the village so we went hiking a couple of times, which was real nice and interesting. One day we went to Montefegatesi, the highest of the Bagni di Lucca villages. It was one of the best experiences we had, beginning from driving there by car and ending to the Dante monument up on the hill. Another day we went to Pisa and then one day to San Giminiano to see the other side of the beautiful Tuscany. We were very well informed and taken care by Guy and her friend, a friendly lady who lives in the village. All the arrangements were fine, so we had nothing to worry about. A perfect holiday! Thank you so much Guy for making this possible for us! One tip for how to get to/from Florence: on our way from Florence to Bagni di Lucca we took the way the GPS suggested, which went through Lucca. But when we went back, we took the upper way so when we left Bagni di Lucca, we turned left on the SS12. On that way there was less traffic and the scenery was much more beautiful with little villages and mountains in the beginning of our ride. It takes almost the same time as if you take the SS12 through Lucca. ”
“We stayed in the village - Pieve di Controne - above Bagni di Lucca for 6 days and experienced the warmth of Italian locals (Anna and her Mum and Dad in the house opposite the little shop at San Gemignano is not to be confused with the town with many towersand renowned for its wines, San Gimignano), ate at a wonderful local restaurant and walked in the hills. The house was very comfortable indeed and with a small car we easily managed the narrow roads to and from Bagni di Lucca where we: swam in the natural spring water of the local pool on more than one occasion; visited the large city of Lucca (45 mins away) where we also heard renditions of Puccini's operas one evening; and walked around the medieval city walls. We also travelled further afield to Pisa and Siena - so got to see quite a lot in 6 days. What great memories we have of that part of Italy - thanks so much for the opportunity to experience it all Guy. P.S I read the English version of the history of Pieve di Controne's Parish in the book available with other information and maps in the house. It was truly a great read - someone should make a movie of the villager's lives especially related to their experiences in WWII.”
“We had a wonderful stay in Tuscany. Good communication and comprehensive information was available from Guy before and during the trip, which was really good as we are not frequent travellers. Tuscany was worth it. The weather was wonderful, but hot, so it was lovely to be able to chill out in the cool house. Everything we needed was there and despite being quiet and pretty remote everything we needed was there. We loved out walks to the village shop and the pool at Bagni di Lucca is to die for. Alison”
