About our home

Our beautifully restored apartment is on the top floor (3rd floor - no elevator) of an 18th century palazzina in the historical centre of Parma. The entire building was renovated in 2005 with a modern feel but retaining some original features, such as exposed wooden ceiling & beams.

The apartment is light and airy, approximately 100m², with oak floors throughout and has an open plan layout. An entrance hall leads onto one main living space used as a kitchen, dining and living room and the master bedroom is on a mezzanine level overlooking the living room. The second bedroom (previously a large double bedroom with king size bed) is now set up as a nursery with one cot but an additional single bed could also be arranged for this room, making the apartment suitable for a swap with two adults and two children. This bedroom also has an ensuite wetroom with shower, sink and toilet. We also have a large main bathroom with bath, shower, sink, toilet and bidet.

The centre of Parma is mostly pedestrianised and is a wonderful city to explore either on foot or by bike. There are a number of parks just a few minutes walk from the apartment and there are many bars and restaurants in the surrounding cobbled streets which are great for dining out and sampling the delicious Parmesan cuisine.

Parma is a very chic and spotlessly clean city with beautiful architecture, churches, museums, galleries, theatres and shops to explore. It’s a relatively small city but has a very rich culture in the arts and cuisine. There is always something going on somewhere, street markets, jazz & poetry festivals, concerts in the small piazzas' and music recitals in the beautiful old palazzos'.

Parma is ideally situated for day trips to Milan, Modena (home of the Ferrari - the Ferrari museum is only 45 minutes away), Verona, Mantova, Cremona and Bologna. The Italian Lakes of Garda & Como are within a two hour drive as are the coastal resorts of the Adriatic & Liguria, such as Portofino.

As a contrast to our city centre apartment, we have a second home, high up in the Apennine mountains, just 80km from Parma, in a remote hamlet which is home to just 11 people. We are happy to offer both our homes as part of a home exchange.

Details regarding our Apennine Mountain home are found here:

The idyllic setting of our mountain home combined with a stay in the centre of Parma would make for the perfect Italian break and would enable you to see the best Italy has to offer, beautiful cities and stunning countryside.
