About our home

Our penthouse is the "hat" of a 12th century watchtower villa in Chianti, on the hills south of Florence. Our home is a unique "loft", so although we listed it as 2 bedrooms, it is actually one 70MQ space with 2 mezzanines that can be divided into 2 by a barn door, with a queen size bed and a single bed on one side, and a full size bed and single bed on the other. An antique Swedish ceramic wood-burning stove supplies charme and extra heat. A hammoc right in front of it, facing the window with view of the church bell tower, makes for our very favorite nap location!
5 mt (over 15 ft) high ceilings, wood beams, terracotta floors, picture-perfect views, windows looking at sunrise and sunset, 900 years of history, on top of Chianti hill, 20 minutes away from Florence.
There are lots of stairs, but that is how you get the views...

We have 3 cats who live in the home when we are here, but can be kept out as they "own" the whole building and will be welcomed elsewhere.
The estate includes one shaded and one sunny garden, and a small olive grove shared with the other families in the building (who by the way are all family). The gardens are shared with the rest of the family, and you are welcome to use anything, including the BBQ.
Local deli, freshly baked bread, cheeses, wine, great cappuccino and top butcher of the valley all right across the street, 5 minutes walk.Walking distance to several hikes (bring hiking boots!)
WE ALSO HAVE ANOTHER PORTION OF HOME, CALLED THE TOWER, that can be connected to our home for larger parties - AS WELL AS ANOTHER 2 SEPARATE APARTEMENTS IN THE SAME VILLA, that we usually rent on Airbnb - ALSO AVAILABLE FOR SWAP.

More about us

  1. We're a couple in mid 50's with a 17 year old son Giotto, and a 21 year old daughter Eva. We are happy to travel together or separately, in all possible formations: as a family trip, as a couple week-end, as a parent+child treat.

  2. We own and run the Accidental Tourist, offering cooking classes in our home, and also have 3 apartments available on Airbnb. (also available for swapping)

  3. Marco has sailed professionally around the world for 25 years; this home has been in our family for 6 generations and was built in 1146.

Where is it?

THE VILLAGE Local deli, freshly baked bread, cheeses, wine and beer shop, great cappuccino and top butcher of the valley all right across the street, 5 minutes walk. NO PROPER RESTAURANT WALKING DISTANCE, but you can buy all the food you need to make your own meals, and the local butcher also offers lasagne and grilled chicken and beverages, to eat there or take home. Very nice family style trattoria only 5 minutes driving from home, serving great pizza, pasta, steak and more Italian food.
The tower is the top of the villa which sits on top of the hills on top of the village...Great views and breeze, but only 5 minutes walk from the little shops, (veggies, meats, freshly baked breads, cappuccino, and a rotisserie which also serves meals etc). A community center/bar will serve caffe and aperitivi, with a great panoramic terrace. Plenty of hikes start from here.
