“Brilliant week at Santa Domenica Talao, just 20 mins on the hill above Scalea. Spotless home of Rosemary & Paul, in a rustic village above the hustle and bustle of the Tirrenian plain. We could have spent a lot longer...explored Sapri, Materna, Belvedere Marittima, Diamente, Scalea and Praia a Mare, and took a day trip by train down to Cosenza. Attractive nearby beaches of San Nicola Arcella and Praia a Mare - Dino Island. A particular highlight 40 mins further up the road to Mormanno, is the Grotta del Romita where there are wall carvings from the paleontolic era c.19,000 years ago. ...and the antipasta della case and pizzas at the Bella Vista Hotel, not to mention Campari spritzers on the terrace. Also friendly folk in Santa Domenica, and Maria who welcomed us and showed us around. Grazie a tutti.”

“In a delightful landscape and a typical south-italian village, the house is located on the top of a hill. The terrace is large and has view on the sea. The accommodation is comfortable and enjoyable. The intricate maze of streets is conducting towards the center of the village where supermarkets, various shops and bars are located. The people of Santa Domenica are very friendly and the surroundings full of forests, mountains, birds... perfect for a walk or a drive until the sea shore ... Delicious !”
“We just spend a week in Paul & Rosemary\'s well appointed home in Santa Domenica Talao. Despite being end of September we swam every day at the nearby beach of Scalea (the beach was free and water transparent). The village itself is peaceful (seems like time stopped a few decades ago) and a great base to have for exploring the region. Many day trips to interesting nearby villages. The house itself well situated, with a terrace that over looks the ocean in the distance. Plenty of parking. Paul & Rosemary were great hosts - very accommodating and easy to deal with. We will definetly go back!”
“We absolutely enjoyed eleven days in this beautiful Calabrian hill town. As well as experiencing the laid back friendly ambiance of the town we had plenty of time to explore this fascinating region of Italy. Our hosts Rosie and Paul could not have been more helpful and provided us with a wealth of information to make the most of our time. Their home is well appointed and perfect for our needs. A five star exchange!”
“The owners are very kind, accommodating and helpful. The property is in a small village in the Pollino natural riserve which has a series of small villages around. The area is very beautiful and the see with the renowned Scalea village is just 20 minutes away by car. It’s a lovely place to visit and we enjoyed very much our stay. The apartment is really lovely, very panoramic, with all amenities and a beautiful terrace which overlooks the see and the mountains around. Fantastic! We really recommend it!. ”
“We highly recommand an exchange with Rosemary and Paul. Everything they said said in their description is absolutely true! S. Domenica is a glimpse of authentic life in a southern Italy village and their house was a comfortable haven after visiting around all day. Moreover, Rosemary and Paul are fantastic people as we found out later when we met at our place. They weren't in s. Domenica, but the nice lady encharged to let us in gave us a friendly welcome and was very helpfull during our stay. (Anyway , they left tons of useful information for us) And last but not least they left our house in perfect conditions. Thank you Rosemary, Thank you Paul, We can't wait to meet again! ”
“Bellissima casa , accogliente e super attrezzata.
Poi in casa...frescura e silenzio. Enrica e Silvano”
Where is it?
If you yearn for a bland international 5 star hotel which could be found in any capital city of the world, then stop reading now! But if you want a genuine, authentic experience of REAL Italy, then read on! A little hilltop village only 8 k's from the sea, with sweeping views of the ocean, and protected by the rugged, majestic mountains of the Pollino National Park behind. With only 1300 people, the village is small enough to be warmly welcoming to visitors but large enough to have grocery shops, hairdressers, doctor, pharmacy, baker, butchers, hardware, shoe and florist shops and restaurant and bars within easy walking distances. The piazza, with its marble paving is encrusted with lots of older menfolk changing the world, (or playing cards!). Up a few rustic steps past the riot of coloured flowers spilling from the Florist's, we find the church, filled with light. Its superb restoration was gifted by the town priest who won the lottery and donated all the winnings for its restoration! Wander the twisting narrow lanes to go back in time, and follow the Stations of the Cross up to the evocative cemetery, with its' whispering pines. It's not far to the sea at Scalea to swim or any of the beaches along the coast, or go East and drive into the stunning Pollino and Sila National Parks to go whitewater rafting, horseriding, walking. If you'd like a spectacular winter drive, you could have a day's skiing, about 2 hours away. Karting?...on Sundays, 5 minutes. A miniature footy pitch close by. A winding mountain drive leads you to the Romito caves with their Neolithic engravings and skeletons! Beautiful, historical, unique towns abound.... Maiera, Diamante, Belvedere, Orsomarso, too many to list.
Our neighbours are wonderful, there if you need them, but never intrusive. And the townsfolk are very welcoming to visitors.... we don't get many!!
