About our home

Our beautifully renovated apartment is situated in one of the most desirable hilltop towns in Umbria, with history, beauty and delicious local foods and wines all locally sourced.
The views from all around this little gem of a town are stunning! From the mountains of the Appenines in the background, to the rolling green hills of farm lands and woods, vineyards and fields of golden sunflowers, it boasts everything you could want. We are very much immersed in the very centre of the "Green Heart of Umbria"!

Our apartment is situated in a lovely palazzo from the 15th century, on the second floor. We are only a few minutes walk up to the main piazza.
Spacious and comfortable, the apartment was totally renovated 5 years ago. With all new wiring , heating, kitchen and bathroom, we have decorated and furnished in a sympathetic yet updated style to reflect our early 1500’s apartment, using locally sourced furnishings.
A few steps out of our door we have a large terrace with stunning views over 2 of the most beautiful churches of Todi. From here you can gaze out to the rolling green hills, woods and farms that surround us and supply us with zero kilometres fabulous fresh food and wine.

In the lively town are numerous restaurants and bars ( cafes) that are all walkable, no car needed in town! Banks, pharmacy, clothing and shoe shops, butcher, fish monger, local food / grocery shops, green grocer, beauticians and hairdressers etc are all here on your doorstep.

We are a town historically renowned for its artists- and this continues today. There are many art galleries of local artists, high end ceramic shops, and jewellery artists studios also. Locally just outside the medieval walls you will find fresh pasta and pastry shops, bakeries, a supermarket as well as a wonderful local cheesemaker and wineries to explore.

There is a small farmers market every Monday morning, and on Saturdays there is a food and goods market.

Some of our favorite Local Restaurants:
Ristorante Umbria, Basico, Osteria delle Valle, Pane e Vino, Ristorante and Pizzeria Cavour, Mercantaccio plus many more!
Out of town : there are some excellent restaurants : Le Relais Todini, or Roccafiore Spa, Resort Restaurant and Winery, both about 10 mins drive.

Todi can boast having one of Italy’s most intact and beautiful mediaeval piazzas, surrounded by grand medieval palazzos. There is also an underground Roman cistern underneath the main piazza to explore!

For entertainment,-
we have an eighteenth century teatro, with plays, concerts and operas, as well as a local gem of a cinema playing the latest films. During the year, usually in May and October we have a national archery contest, and a fabulous historical parade.
During the year tere are several other markets/ displays- such as our international musical festival and a cinema festival.

Local walking and cycling trails are a delightful way to discover the local countryside, and bike hire is close by.

During the warmer months there are numerous festivals, musical and outdoor cinema events, markets and food festivals (sagre) in and nearby to Todi.

Local Sightseeing:
There are numerous day trips to many other historical lovely towns, all around 35-45 minutes drive, such as Perugia, Spoleto, Assisi, Spello, Orvieto, Cortona as well as Lago Trasimeno (scene of Hannibals's battle ) or Lago Bolsena: both lakes are swimmable and have numerous good fresh fish restaurants.

The nearby towns of Montefalco, Bevagna, and Montepulciano are all famous for their wines and cantinas where you can have wine tastings. In town there are good restaurants as well as places of historically interest.
They are all about 40 mins away.

Rome is only 1.5.hrs south and going north are Florence 2 hrs or Siena 1.5 hrs.

For even more there are the spectacular Marmore falls, the only falls that stop and start, due to ingenious Roman engineering.

Shopping :
Collevallenza Mall-40 mins away- for supermarkets and several well known clothing labels such as Max and Co, Geox, Zara, H & M and Designal.

Perugia - good shopping and wonderful museums, plus the home of Bacci chocolates and the Euro chocolate festival, also in summer several big name concerts.
Cashmere factory outlets and shoe outlets are close.
Valdichiana Shopping Mall and Outlet is about an hour away, with many high end labels.

More about us

  1. We're an active, retired couple . We love travelling to new places, and have been to many. But no European swaps in the northern winter, please!

  2. We're hopefully looking at 2022/ 23 now. We love local cuisine and wines, history, art, walking, and are passionate about all things Italian. We speak pretty decent Italian, as we also have an apartment in Umbria. (See our other listing).

  3. We are fairly open to suggestions, as we have a home in Italy, Umbria, as well as our home in Sydney and so both are available for approx 6 months per year.
