“One could not wish for better hosts! Patrizia and Piero were just wonderful! Sunday lunch with the family was a perfect way to start the week and the hospitality (and Nespolino!) very much appreciated . Lots of information about the area was given, which meant we didn't miss out on any hidden gems!. So nice to be on acreage with laden fruit trees and little bowls of fresh fruit mysteriously appearing outside the door! Even loved the gentle cats and kittens wandering the grounds. We just hope you enjoyed your exchange in Santa Domenica Talao as much as we did. Thank you again for a great week. Ci vediamo dopo speriamo! Tanti auguri, Rosemary and Paul ”
Where is it?
We live in Apulia, the sun-kissed peninsula that appears like the heel of the Italian boot, and precisely in the peaceful countryside of Salento, 5 km. from beautiful and lively Lecce.
Merine (that's the name of the village we live nearby ), is 2 minutes by car from the house, and has all facilities for shopping with a village supermarket, bakery, greengrocer with fresh produce and there are plenty of bars, pizzeria and restaurants locally and within pretty surrounding villages. And if you want to take in shopping, city sightseeing, live music, markets, more fine restaurants then Lecce is only less than 10 mins away by car.
And the crystal-like seaside is within easy reach by car (the nearest being 7 km. away )
Otranto and the fabulous landscape of Adriatic sea, and magic Gallipoli, on the opposite coast, on Ionian sea, are less than 25 minutes away.
Brindisi airport is thirty minutes drive, with easy links to Europe.
We are well-placed for visiting most of the places of interest and we'll give you lots of information about!
Apulia has recently gained popularity as a holiday destination as travelers become aware of the natural beauty of its landscapes and the wealth of fascinating towns with Greek, Norman and Saracen-influenced architecture, and the magnificent Baroque cathedrals in Lecce and other nearby towns. The cuisine of Puglia features fresh seafood, and its wines are renowned, particularly the reds from Salento and the refreshing whites from Locorotondo and Gravina.
