“We spent 15 nights at Lizzies place this winter and found it to be a real slice of rural colourful Jamaican living. The friends and neighbours we met amongst the gated community were all very kind and helpful. Lizzie herself was also very forthcoming with information and fast to respond from abroad. A great host. The location is easily accessible up a big hill from the main coastal road near Ocho Rios and we were able to zip around and see lots during our stay as we hired a car from the airport. Having a 16 month old baby meant that driving each day to a sandy beach was easier and more relaxing for us than staying by the shared pool in the community purely for safety & practicality reasons but we did use the pool once and it was pleasant. Lizzie’s place is rustic and vibrant. Lots of pattern and prints fill the room giving the place a boho/artisan feel. She has ceiling fans upstairs which are extremely welcome as it can feels very hot and humid even in the dry season. We could have done with one in the main living area as well so we could feel more comfortable in the evenings when we were indoors but there is a nice breeze that comes in from the balcony and the stunning sea views. The master suite is very comfortable and the upstairs bathrooms have been modernized. We only used the upstairs and the street level during our stay but there was lots of room if we had wanted to have others join us. We had a cleaner come during our stay as it gets very dirty very quickly in the heat and humidity with bringing mud in from the garden or sand from the beach after wet weather. The tiled floors get slippery when wet and the open plan balcony’s and living areas around the staircase made it a bit hazardous for us having a toddler so although there is a bedroom set up for an older child and lots of books to read...this place is not really that suited for small children in my opinion. We loved having a domestic cat to look after and play with, Tinker is very sweet and affectionate. If you want luxury this isn’t the place for you but if you want down to earth real living, you don’t mind a little humidity and you aren’t fussed about being on a beach then Lizzie’s is perfect. ”
“We had a lovely stay in Elizabeth’s home which was a slice of real Jamaican living away fromthe hotels. We didn’t hire a car as it was easy to take the route taxis and Elizabeth was really helpful in suggesting local places for us to go away from the usual tourist places. My only regret was not taking my husband and daughter to Dunn’s river falls. I’d been there 20 years prior and it was an absolute highlight, though you do have to try and go when it is quiet, (plan ahead and check the cruise ship schedules!) We didn’t use the We spent as there were just 3 of us and the better rooms are at the top. If you want a luxury hotel experience this is not the place but if you want somewhere to stay for an authentic experience complete with local cats, you will enjoy Elizabeth’s home.”
“I stayed at The Lion House, Lizzie's guesthouse, instead of her home. It was a delightful stay and easy access to Ochi via route taxi. I drank in the view and the gentle breezes, and appreciated the kitchen access. Lizzie is kind and helpful. It was a delight to stay up in the hills.”
“We had a wonderful stay in Jamaica at Elizabeth's home. She came over and spent a lot of time with us sharing restaurants, beaches and other destinations that couldn't be missed. It was a great way to experience Jamaica like a local! ”
“Thank you so much Elizabeth and Mahlon. We has an unforgettable stay in your home. We couldn't have asked for a better swap. A beautiful, spacious and comfortable home in a great location just outside the hustle and bustle of Ocho Rios. Supportive hosting to find our feet in the real, safe and non-touristy parts of Jamaica including help with sorting out transport, food and local, quiet, cool and interesting places to visit. We've fallen in love with Jamaica and your home thanks to your hospitality. We'd wholeheartedly recommend your place for a home swap. We'll be back! ”
“Elizabeth was a wonderful guest and I would be happy to welcome her to our home anytime. She even watered my plants for me which was greatly appreciated.”
