Miranda's reviews
As a host (3)“We have just returned from a fantastic weeks point swap at Hooting Owl Lodge. Miranda was super efficient in her communications offering advise on everything from local restaurants to travel advice and ski hire, ski lesson information. The house was huge, with more than enough space for our party of 12. We spent the days skiing (think we were incredibly lucky to get the last of the spring snow) and then onto the local Onsens. We had a few evenings eating out at local restaurants but the rest of the time at the lodge - enjoying the central dining table and lounge area. The views out over the snow were superb and we even saw a fox in the garden! The house was clean and tidy, and had underfloor heating. Children had a magical time building a toboggan run in the back garden. We would love to return another time as this swap far exceeded our expectations. ”
“This lodge has a hostel type atmosphere, with 2-4 person rooms and shared living/cooking/bathroom space, but we were lucky enough to have the whole place to our family. Facilities were clean and comfortable, although the kitchen could do with an update. Miranda was there to greet us and settle us in and was available if we needed her. It's a great location near "Pure" adventure centre, cafés, restaurants and mini farmers' markets but you will need a car to get around (renting from the airport is easy but should be booked in advance). Lots to do in the summer season (we're not skiers) - rafting, hiking, lake Toya for swimming, canoeing and volcanic hiking as well as craft centres for rainy day activities. Also took day trips to Otaru (famous canal/port area), Youichi whisky distillery and Sapporo. Make sure you eat the most famous foods - kaisendon (mixed raw fish rice bowl), Sapporo ramen, Jingis Khan (lamb and veggies hotplate), delicious Hokkaido soup curry, just picked sweetcorn from local farms and rich ice-cream, cheese and dairy products. You'll have a great time here!”
