Our gorgeous ski cabin was built by a Japanese craftsman from Alaskan pine logs. It is nestled in the countryside only 4 mins drive to the ski lifts. We renovated it extensively in 2013, and it is warm, cosy, and comfortable. It has everything you need for a beautiful ski holiday experience in an an authentic Japanese ski cabin. It is our home away from home.
The cabin is deceptively large. It is almost 200 square meters of floor space. We have kept most of the important rustic features like the massive log walls and 12" wide floorboards, but we have added modern touches to it. We stay there for months at a time and love every minute.
There are three bedrooms. Two are average size twin bedrooms, and the master bedroom is huge. One twin room on the ground floor and the master and second bedroom upstairs. There is a bathroom and separate toilet (heated seat of course). The shower and hot water are awesome...we have the shower-of-power, which is important after a day in the snow.
The kitchen is new, the appliances are new, the laundry is new. The heating works really well too. Everything dries out after a day on the mountain in quick time. There is a bbq on the front deck, which is sheltered from the snow.
We are in the countryside but only 3 minutes drive from the main village and 4 minutes from the lifts. It has the best of both worlds - quiet country serenity only a few minutes from the buzzing village.
We are next to a road that is cleared every morning (you don't want to get a big powder dump overnight and be stranded at home). Cars are easy to rent, and the convenience of being able to drive to the lifts and park right next to them cannot be overstated - no lugging gear on shoulders and shuttle buses. We have a double carport for the cars too.
We shop in the local town - Kutchan - which has some huge supermarkets, and every other kind of store you might need.
