About our home
The house is 10 years old with all mod cons and a large garden. We live in a new neighbourhood of new houses with young families. We have 2 cars, including an electric car. The kitchen is small by non-Japanese standards but contains all electronic devices you need. The garden goes around the house so there is ample light and there is also a small stream at the entrance.

Where is it?
Neighbourhood
We live in a traditional rural area of Japan: here you will not see the neon lights or skyscrapers of Tokyo. Instead, we are surrounded by rice fields and a wonderful natural world. There are many local traditions and festivals, especially in August, such as a Japanese drum festival and huge firework display on the beach. The neighbourhood is friendly and very safe: everyone knows each other. It is a small town of about 10,000 people. There is a great children's science museum 100 metres from the house with a lovely river and park/gardens which make an excellent morning jog/walk route. The beach is less than 1 kilometre from the home and has life guards in summer. The Chokai mountain (2,300m) can be reached by car in less than 20 minutes and offers hiking, trekking and glorious views. Akita City (300,000 population) is the regional capital and 50 kilometres north of us.
