About our home

Be prepared to slow right down in this old Minka house. It's approximately 230 years old and it's a very spacious 2 storey house. Fukuchiyama is a peaceful, old castle town located in the north-west of Kyoto Prefecture, just over an hour by train from Kyoto. It's uncrowded, unhurried and surrounded by nature. This makes for a tranquil and relaxing base to explore the endless attractions nearby. It's suitable for a house swap all year. It can comfortably sleep up to 8 people. It's a very spacious house with the main house being 2 storey building. Best way to get there is either from Kyoto on a train (approx 1 Hour) on the train then walk over to the car hire place just outside the train station and its about 15 minutes drive out. The public transport is available but its a bit infrequent and may be challenging to use if you dot speak Japanese. We go to the house a couple of times a year and the rest of the time we rent it out to travellers. Happy to provide lots of information on things to do around the area. Best to get a pocket WiFi from the airport during your stay. That's what we do and it's very good as it provides unlimited usage. Japan is a hard place to find WiFi cafes etc especially in the country.
Please note the toilet is in the outbuilding not in the main house. Also there is a 7,000 yen one-off cleaning fee.

Where is it?

Yakuno village is just 30 minutes drive from the popular Takeda Castle Ruin. Its also only 55 minutes to the popular coastal villages and the Amano Hashidate view considered top 3 beautiful views in Japan. Kyot the cultural centre of Japan is just under 2 hours drive or 1.5 hours by train from Fukuchiyama. There are many temples and shrines as well as cultural activities available in and around Yakuno village that I am happy to tell you about. If you buy the bullet train pass before you leave you can travel all over Japan on the pass very quickly and inexpensively . I suggest buying these passes and get unlimited bullet train ride so that you can see most of japan.
