I live in an inner-suburban area, in a new Mega Towers complex (built in the last four years). It is a one-bedroom apartment, about 90sqm. It is comfortable, with all modern appliances you would expect, but not a dishwasher. It is modern, earthy tones, low maintenance. The cleaner comes once a week (but this can be negotiable). The lounge sofa opens out to a bed, if there should be three of you. It is located right next door to the Mega Centre Shopping Complex, so if you feel the need to see global franchised shops, this is the place, Yes, there is Gloria Jeanes, but no Starbucks. Markets are everywhere and some within walking distance, if you seek the very fresh produce. The apartment has wireless Internet, a television that captures BBC and CCN. I am not much of a TV watcher....and a DVD player. More photos of the apartment can follow.
I am a Western Australian who has been living here for two years, with another year to finish my contract. I work in an international school and I very much enjoy the difference of this lifestyle. Prior to this I was living in Beijing for seven years, which also was a wonderful experience. I am returning to Perth for an extended summer holiday, commencing June 19th - August 10th and at this point am looking for a coastal holiday in the south-west. This would only be for one week. However I am flexible if someone should wish to spend an extended time here during the above time frame. I also have other dates pending throughout the next twelve months, but have not yet given them much consideration. So, am open to suggestions.
If you seek difference this is the country for you. This country is post-soviet and has been so since 1992. So you should expect everything that goes with that. Essentially, all things are rubber stamped multiple times. People are very obliging, and the majority of the country speaks Russian. Although you will be surprised how many people speak English.
It is a country that demands you show patience. It is the nature of the country, that things do happen in their time. 40% of the population is Russian. There are a number of practicing moderate Muslims (approx 24% practicing). The President Nazarbayev has consciously promoted secularism. Therefore you will see many practicing religions, including Russian Orthodox, Catholocism and Christianity. The canal outside traverses all the way up to the mountains. Hiking is very close and excellent. There are many good cafes and restaurants. Prices are very good for most restaurants. Cheap skiing holiday for Christmas period.
