About our home

We live in a very beautiful part of Kenya 7,200 ft above sea level overlooking Lake Naivasha and the Great Rift Valley, 120 Km north of Nairobi. Because of the altitude, the climate is idyllic all the year round; daytime temperatures are never too hot and with low humidity; the nights are cool enough to sleep well. Our 5 acre property is set amongst a lovely tropical garden overlooking the Great Rift Valley Golf and Country Complex and the Aberdare Mountains. We have a solar heated swimming pool and also have a cottage and a lodge which we can either exchange or else let to overseas tourists.

I am a New Zealand Citizen but have lived in Kenya for the past 20 years, prior to that we were in the UK and New Zealand where my husband was a teacher

Our House, cottage and lodges are each uniquely designed and we have taken care to make them comfortable and with an African style. Each one is an exciting property to live in, with great views from most rooms and they are completely private from each other. All have fireplaces for the cooler nights and the cottage and lodges have makuti (thatched) roofs. We have good contacts with safari companies as well as local drivers and guides, so we would be delighted to assist in arranging a variety of safaris in appropriate vehicles. The cottage can sleep 4 adults plus children, whilst the Lodges which are situated in the bush overlooking our water hole are ideal for couples.

More about us

  1. After spending 30 years in education in New Zealand, the UK and finally Kenya , my late husband Graeme and I decided to make Kenya our home building 3 properties on our land here in Naivasha.
Now I wonder how we ever found the time to be employed!!
We designed and oversaw the building of our house and extended our property to include a thatched guest 2 bedroom cottage and a 2 bedroom safari style lodge in the bush which we have just completed to include an area for bush dinners.
I let or exchange both the house and the cottage and occasionally the lodge when we are travelling. We were both active (I still am!) people and shared interests such as golf, bridge, gardening and swimming. I have two dogs, a cat, chickens and ducks on our site.
Our 3 children are all married with young children of their own. Our youngest son lives in Singapore, our daughter lives in Hong Kong, whilst our eldest son is in London. The photo below shows our 9 grandchildren whilst on holiday in France last year. I travel extensively to be with them and to go on new adventures with them, so our home does not have to be swapped simultaneously.

Where is it?

We live on a very secure estate called Green Park, situated just a few minutes from the lakeside and within a 20 minute drive from a wildlife game reserve called Crater Lake.
The Great Rift Valley has a rich diversity of animal & birdlife and there is active thermal activity in the region with spectacular volcanic scenery. Animals such as buffalo, impala, zebra, waterbuck and warthogs roam around the exterior of our fenced enclosure at night, whilst hippo and pelicans abound in the lake.
There are numerous beauty spots within easy driving distance such as Hell's Gate, Crater Lake, Elsamere and Lake Elementaita. Nakuru National Park is just one hour away and it is the second most visited tourist site in Kenya after the Masai Mara.
Our 12m x 6m solar heated swimming pool is situated in a lovely sheltered position on our sloping site and there is also a mini gymnasium near the house. We are fortunate to have local house staff to make your stay enjoyable, including a very competent chef.
Kenya is a very exciting country to visit with superb game and the most equitable climate. Living at altitude we are fortunate to reside in a clean, green and healthy location, generally without mosquitoes or other annoying insects.
Outside we also employ local staff to assist us to maintain our lawns, gardens, house, cottage, lodge and the swimming pool. They also tend to the daily needs of our animals. They include a housekeeper, maintenance manager and a gardener.
Our chef can cook a variety of styles and she attracts many compliments from guests. Collectively our staff make it possible for all visitors to have a holiday away from day to day menial tasks.
