About our home

This is a second home on the beach, north of Mombasa, Kenya. The house is a family house with 4 bedrooms a huge upstairs roof terrace and pool. The house is right on the beach and the beach is on the Indian Ocean - so warm, gentle sea. The area of sea right in front of the house is a marine sanctuary (Kuruwitu Conservation and Welfare Association) which offers some of the best snorkeling in Kenya. The house has lots of space, a lovely swimming pool, outside dining table and large veranda. We have three staff - a cook, a house boy for all cleaning and washing and a guard for night times. The security at the house is good and the area is a peaceful area anyway. There is an 18-hole championship golf course 5 minutes away from the house, Vipingo Ridge which is probably the best golf course between Dubai and South Africa. The area is lovely and while you won't want to leave, if you do feel adventurous, you can go on safari to Tsavo - about 2 1/2 hours drive. Fish are caught daily and brought to the house, along with fresh fruit grown locally. Hiring a car is recommended.

More about us

  1. We are a family of four - both my husband and I are designers and our children are teenagers. We share the house with our sister and brother in law. I was born in London but moved to Kenya 17 years ago, while my husband and sister in law were born in Kenya. My husband worked with the local community to set up the Kuruwitu Conservation and Welfare Association which looks after the marine sanctuary and is involved in helping the surrounding community.

Where is it?

Vipingo is about 35kms north of Mombasa (with an international airport) and about 50kms south of Malindi (also has an airport). It is a lovely, undeveloped, sleepy beachside area bordering the Indian Ocean. Kenya is southern hemisphere, so hot between October and March, rains in April and then cooler, but still sunny from May to September. Vipingo has become known for the amazing Vipingo Ridge golf course - 5 minutes drive from the house and also the Kuruwitu Marine Sanctuary. There are lots of things to do nearby - explore Kilifi or go yachting or kitesurfing from one of the amazing sailing clubs in Kilifi. Go deep sea fishing at Watamu or drink coffee with the Italians in Malindi. There are spa options either north of Vipingo at Malindi or south at the Serena beach. Shopping in Mombasa is bustling and safari choices are 2 1/2 hours drive or an hour away by plane.
