Hi, thanks for looking! We've got baby twins now, so won't be able to do very much travelling for a bit... We do rent Kanani House out, fully staffed, either as a whole house or per room on a B&B basis. Or we could do points swaps, or maybe swap for places close to the UK.
We built Kanani house in 2006 as a private retreat and small guesthouse, with massive attention to environmental sensitivity. Oli trained as an architect, Sasha is a biologist by training, and we're both designers who fell in love with the Kenya coast. It's built set back from a shallow cliff above the Indian Ocean, giving amazing views and sea breezes. Inspired by the upcountry safari lodges, we wanted to create a property more like an African village than a traditional western house. Each bedroom is a private cottage in the 5 acre walled garden, with ensuite bathroom and small private terrace. Bedrooms are screened for privacy, but otherwise open to take advantage of the sea breezes. The large central living and dining room has plenty of space for relaxing, including our gorgeous swing beds. The 10m infinity pool is fed from a semi saline well, so has the minimum of chemicals and sparkling cool water. There's access to a little beach at low tide through our tunnel, or the nearest public beach is less than a 10 minute walk away.
Kanani is very easy to get to, being 20 minutes away from Malindi airport, or 90 minutes from Mombasa, our house manager can arrange cabs etc. Our friendly, English speaking staff have been with us for years, including our fabulous chef Elvis - they will be happy to help you arrange any activities, as well as looking after you beautifully. There are also two house stewards, so all the shopping, laundry, cooking etc are taken care of - our guests can relax completely!
In line with the Robinson Crusoe philosophy, it's a totally low tech/no tech house - there's no TV, wifi, or landline, but mobile phones do work, and limited internet access is possible if you need it. Kanani is very private, but there's lots of fun bars and restaurants within easy reach - 5 - 10 minutes by tuk tuk and a few within a short walk. Free wifi is available in most of the local bars. There's loads to do in the local area - dolphin, whale & bird watching, some of the world's best beaches, every conceivable water sport, the beautiful sokoke forest mida creek and Gede ruins are all very nearby, but you have to drag yourself away from the pool first!
