About our home

The apartment is in Luxembourg City in an historic district ? part of the UNESCO World Heritage site ? a five minute walk to the center of the city and banking district. The building, located on a cobblestone street dates from the 1780s. At the end of the dead end street is a dramatic tower designed by Sebastian de Vauban, Louis XIV's military engineer. The inside of the building was guted and five new apartments were built in 2006. Our apartment is on the second floor and has beautiful modern furniture. A door from the bedroom opens to a large terrace. Three large windows face the street and allow ample sunlight.

More about us

We are Robert(American) and Myriam (Luxembourger)living in Annapolis, Maryland on a creek leading to the Chesapeake Bay. I write about military issues for a non-governmental organization in Washington, DC. Myriam is a former diplomat and an artist. We love to travel and discover new places. This is our first exchange. This is our second house so we can do non-simultaneous exchange.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

There is an upper and lower part of Luxembourg City. Our apartment is in the lower city in the historic Pfaffenthal neighborhood, alongside the charming Alzette River and adjoining parks. Luxembourg was once known as the "Gibraltar of the North" for the fortifications that were built beginning in the 17th century. The "casemates" or underground tunnels can be visited today. The upper city is filled with charming cafes and pedestrian streets. It is a truly cosmopolitan city as it is home to numerous institutions of the European Union and a center of international banking. Use Google Earth for views of the City, neighborhood and street.
