Our home is a 17th century, 3 story, Knights of Malta origin, just restored, with original Maltese tile floors and sandstone walls. Ground floor has a grand entrance hall/gallery, small dining area, tiny interior courtyard, and all-new modern kitchen. A large circular stair leads to the first floor with master bedroom with 60cm x 90cm bed, main bath with tub and separate shower. Salon is former chapel with 20 ft ceiling stone ceiling, wood beams, English leather furniture, and a traditional Maltese balcony overlooking the Republic Street. Guest toilet is on circular stair to second floor with a second bedroom double bed and bathroom with shower, plus a small third bedroom with double bed. Salon and bedrooms are nicely furnished with Persian carpets. Weekly cleaning is included. (We will load more pictures shortly.)
We are an American couple living in Malta for the weather, friendly English and Italian speaking people, and proximity to mainland Europe. With so many good restaurants to choose from, we never eat in, so we can introduce you to our favorite chefs. Jeannette (55) is an artist and Steve (62) is a financial writer and we plan to exchange homes in order to experience the rest of Europe. We are very flexible on travel dates, but need to be in Paris for Jeannette's first exhibition 12 July to 1 August 2011.
Valletta is a UNESCO World Heritage protected city, the first planned capital in Europe built by the Knights of Malta following the 1565 Great Siege. Our house is on the main street, dead center in the city that is 1 mile long and half mile wide. There are 57 restaurants in walking distance offering French, Italian, Mediterranean, and even Chinese food. (We never eat in.) There are dozens of churches, galleries, and museums in the city. There is a 5 minute ferry ride to Saliema. The main bus depot is just outside the city gate, taking you to any point on the island for beaches, hiking, sightseeing, diving, horseback riding...Beginning July 1, an entire new fleet of air conditioned buses with air conditioning and professionally trained drivers will be introduced. This is a lovely city to stroll, and safe, with numerous outdoor cafes. While bustling with tourists during the day, the streets are quiet at night. Sunshine year around and it never rains between May and October.
