“We have just returned from a month on the Island of Gozo, Malta. My wife and I had never been to that part of the world and the exchange couldn\'t have gone any better. David and Janette\'s farm house in the beautiful village of Qala was outstanding with three levels of living area, 3 and 1/2 bathrooms, three plus terraces, and a swimming pool. We never had to rent a car as the bus system in Gozo and Malta are excellent. Restaurants, butcher shops, grocery stores, pubs, and the village square were all a few minutes walk from our exchange home. The people of Gozo are extremely friendly and everyone speaks English. I would recommend this home to anyone wanting to experience mediterranean living.”

About our home
Our house is our second home on the island of Gozo, near Malta. It is often called the island of joy because it has a great beauty and magic. We fell in love with Gozo and had this house built for our visits. It is seven years old, has a playground for young children opposite and a private swimming pool. There are tiered terraces on the ground floor and a large terrace at the top of the house. The two middle bedrooms have balconies. The kitchen is fully equipped and we have had several parties at the house, it is excellent for entertaining.
It is a three minute walk to the village square which has bars, restaurants and a church. There are several shops nearby selling everything you might need and there is a local pharmacy.
Within a ten minute walk is the beach of Hondoq which is safe, clean and well supported by a café, boats to nearby Comino and toilets. It is a very special place which we love.

Janette's reviews
As a host (1)More about us
-
We love travelling and now our children are grown up we have more time to visit other countries. We are retired so are not time limited which is good. David worked as a fund manager in London and I was a secondary school teacher, my subject was English.
Our main home is in Hertfordshire England but we have spent a lot of time at our house on Gozo. We have some fantastic friends and neighbours in Qala who would be able to give you advice or help if needed.
We have three children, two live and work in London and one in New York. We would hope to see our daughter for weekends when staying in The USA. Our hobbies are diving, walking, reading and visiting places of historical and cultural interest.
We are easy going and respectful of others and their property. Although we have not exchanged homes before we could provide character references if necessary. I only retired last year so was locked into the school year previously.
We look forward to hearing from you.

Neighbourhood
The house is in the village of Qala on Gozo. It is opposite a children's play area and is very safe and secure. The local square has four restaurants catering for all the family, Gozo is a family friendly island. There is also our local bar, Zeppis which is friendly and full of locals who love to chat. Everyone speaks English so there are no language barriers.
Scuba diving is excellent here and Dive Blue Waters is first class business to deal with. My husband dives with them and they taught all our children to dive. Snorkeling is also popular as the water is so clear. Artists often visit the island to paint and many walkers come here. The churches attract tourism as they are enormous and very special. There is a mixture of a traditional way of life and very modern technology and transport which provide for a comfortable pleasant stay.
The main town on Gozo is Victoria which has lots of shops, bars, a market and the Citadella which is an historical building where locals ran for safety in the past. Well worth a visit. There are several other places of historical interest and of course Malta is only twenty minutes away. It is also quite easy to go over to Sicily for a weekend.
The best way to get a flavour of the island is to 'google' Malta and Gozo and look at several interpretations of the area. It is difficult to really capture the island as it is a place you feel as much as see. A hidden gem in the Mediterranean.
