About our home

(Please note that National Geographic states that this area has the best weather in the world. Not cold in winter or too hot in summer...it is moderated by the lake and is at an elevation of 5000 feet. There is very little humidity, it is a dry heat. So this time of year is definitely not too warm for you)

This is a gorgeous Mexican home in upper Ajijic at Lake Chapala. It is 2 stories plus a full private rooftop mirador with an outside double jacuzzi tub and 360 degree view of the mountains, village and lake.
Entering the front gate there is a beautiful container garden and a huge wall mural of a village street and houses giving a realistic illusion. Stunning open concept, living room, dining room and kitchen. Colourful Mexican decor throughout. Guest bedroom and full bath on main floor as well. The 2nd floor is a huge loft like master bedroom with12 foot ceilings, big terrace, and large bath with jacuzzi and shower. Also large walkin closet with vanity. Beautiful cathedral window with exquisite stained glass of a peacock at the top of the stairs on the landing. There is a spiral circular staircase to the roof (mirador). Up here is another bedroom with a full bath (in addition to the outside double jacuzzi) laundry facilities. a small fridge, two comfortable sun lounge beds and plenty of open space with unobstructed exquisite views in every direction......mountains close behind and village and magnificent church sloping off towards the lake in front.

More about us

  1. We are Judit and Daniel, both 58 years old and business partners in developing real estate in the area. We moved here 5 years ago from Canada to escape Canadian winters and take advantage of the low cost of living and experience the charm of the Mexican people and village life. Judit runs Change of Pace, the local gym in the center of the village and is also an accupuncturist and alternative health care practitioner. Daniel is semi retired and a developing oil portrait painter. He has 2 married daughters and 4 grandchildren who live in Vancouver area and is looking to spend more time, perhaps 4 to 6 months in the summer in Vancouver and consequently would like some alternative accommodation as his one daughter has a small apartment in downtown Vancouver. Only one of us will be needing accommodation at a time as Judit will be looking to exchange in Toronto where her daughter and grandchild live. That means if you exchange with us one of us will still be here when you arrive and can assist you and be of help in case you need it.
Incidentally the time period from June 1st to September 30th is during the rainy season which begins around June 15th. But conveniently it rains primarily at night and the days are always sunny and warm. The benefits of the rain are that it makes the temperature absolutely perfect, cooling down from May, the hottest month. It also kills the dust, makes the air fresh, and turns the brown parched mountains into a gorgeous lush green. Wonderful season.

Where is it?

Situated on the upper slope of Ajijic the house is centrally located and a short walk to just about everything, the Wednesday market (a must see), the finest restaurants, the village plaza where all kinds of events take place regularly, art galleries, boutiques, the auditorium, Lake Chapala Society, bars, clubs, and dancing venues and much more. There are world class spas close by as well as hot springs. Come see the village life where horses and cars still share the same streets and Mexican music fills the air. The lake is Mexico's largest, 60 miles long. National Geographic says that this location has the best weather in the world. It is not cold in the winter and not too hot in the summer. It is a dry heat and the lake keeps the temperature moderate so residents have no need of either heaters or air conditioners. This area is the largest retirement community for Canadians and Americans outside of Florida so there are several thousand of us here. That means all kinds of familiar clubs, associations and groups and you can even get by with no Spanish! Guadalajara is only an hour away and the airport just a half hour. A direct bus for $4.00 can take you into walking distance of historic downtown Guadalajara with it's magnificent cathedrals and architecture, something you will want to experience.
