A mile above sea level, in one of the world's finest climates (year round springtime, and neither heating nor air conditioning are needed), we live beside a convent in a village on the shores of Mexico's largest freshwater lake, and under an hour from historic Guadalajara. The principal rooms are large and luxurious (12 to 18 foot ceilings, thick walls, five fireplaces, regular staff inside and outside, beautiful gardens, wireless, internet throughout, multiple large screen satellite served televisions, professional kitchen and more We are redecorating and building a website (completion in August)that will fully describe this paradise in the western Sierra Madres so all can see for themselves. In the meantime, my wife and I would be delighted to respond to any inquiries.
Theresa (Terry) and I moved here full time in 2004, after three years of snowbirding (spending the winters months here). Then and now, our experience has been that it is possible to live better here on a given income than anywhere we know of in the world. I am a retired journalist, politician and lobbyist. Terry was a senior executive with Canada's federal government. We both like to cook and entertain, and our kitchen reflects it. While we can't keep up with the crops, the avocados and guyabas from our own trees are delicious - and very popular with the neighbours, to whom we give most of them - but the lemons and limes we use ourselves.
We have two dogs, friendly, affectionate and well trained. We'd like to leave them here - the staff will walk and feed them if that is your preference, or we can board them out - but ours would be to find exchangers who look after our pets while we look after theirs.
We live one block from the zocala, the village square across from the church. A large grocery store specializing in both local and imported foods, a butcher shop, wine and spirits store, a fishmonger, numerous restaurants, a large waterpark, a Cineplex and the best of the local live theatres are all within a few minutes walk. Within a few hours drive, half a day or less, are colonial cities such as San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Morelia, and more, and the Pacific coast cities from Manzanillo to Puerta Vallarta. Guadalajara itself is a Latin American medical centre, with amazing quality, costs and service. Its world class restaurants, cultural and sporting venues -and shopping - have to be seen to be believed - and the international airport is between us and the city, just twenty five minutes away by car.
