About our home

San Miguel is a UNESCO world heritage city in central Mexico with fabulous colonial architecture, warm sunny weather and NO CRIME. It was just rated the #13 best place to retire by AARP. We are known for great art, music, festivals, restaurants & even have a bull ring.

I live in Guadiana the most desireable expat neighborhood, close to Centro, the Jardin and Juarez Park. The house is a private walled compond on a dead end street on 3 levels. There is wifi, cable TV and use includes a 3x a week part-time housekeeper to clean and do laundry.

There are 2 separate entrances and staircases, one which leads directly to the Master Bedroom on the 2nd level. The floors are Mexican tile, there is a gas heater on the main level and a complete set of kitchenware and bedding. Each of the 3 bedrooms has a separate en suite bathroom with a shower with a tiled bathtub in the Master. There is a half bath on the main floor off the dining room. The third floor has a separate sun deck & art studio.

More about us

  1. I am a retired professional from the USA living in San Miguel. I travel extensively and just returned from a 6 week Trans-Atlantic cruise ending in Singapore. Would like to travel more by swapping my home for comparable accommodations somewhere else. You will love San Miguel and the interesting and friendly people who have made it their home.

Where is it?

This unique city has no traffic lights, billboards, chain outlets, franchises or modern buildings. There are no Hilton's, Sheraton's or Ritz Carltons nor Ferragamo, Luis Vuiton or Cartier. Instead every hotel, bed & breakfast, restaurant and store is an original. The streets are all paved with cobblestones and the homes built in the colorful Spanish colonial style. Most everything is walking distance from the house, however taxicabs are plentiful @ 35 pesos ($3.00) to anywhere in town... buses ply the main arteries @ 5 pesos each way.

At over 6,000' above sea level the air is clear, dry & sunny indicative of a high desert climate. In Winter the mornings and nights can get cold, but by afternoon the temperatures is in the 70's. This is not a party town, so living is quieter than in the beach resorts. Due to the large number of permanent American and Canadian residents English is widely spoken. Take a look on the Internet and see what people are saying about this expat jewel.

I miss the beach and looking to spend one or two months somewhere interesting, but not in the rainy season... preferably SE Asia or S. America.
